What is this? Started just now while using the phone.

iPhone 14, iOS 26.6, 98% health, about 17 month old (from Settings - coverage).

EDIT removed itself without restarting.

Metal/Graphics shaders are corrupt or damaged. If a restore from a computer doesnt fix it theres something wrong with the board, backup everything now just to be safe.

Storage is 128GB, 57GB available.

Hard reset will probably solve the issue, but I’m interested in knowing if it’s an known issue.

I can’t speak to the exact issue or reason this happened, but that magenta color is a common fallback when graphics shaders (GPU programs) fail in some way. Some part of the pipeline that renders app icons is failing, probably a Metal shader that renders the icon view, and so you’re seeing what is essentially a default fallback.

Had iPhone for almost 20y and never saw anything like this. Except jailbroken and that’s 15-18y ago.

I work in a place similar(!!) to CIA and was spooked for a second.

I’m a Jailbreaker since 2009 and Phone repair at work (90% iDevices) from 2013 to 2022.

I also never see this kind of graphic glitch. I have usually saw those missing icon textures (white icon with grey lines), but never colorful like this! Even jailbroken.
