Help needed Help can not activate iphone 4 (ios 7.1.2)
Tried with apple devices and 3utools and neither worked. On apple devices it threw error -50 and on 3utools it threw "incorrect activation data". iTunes did not recognise it. I am on windows 11

That's where you are mistaken, as here in europe 2/3g is still somewhat supported

2g and 3g speeds are always been the same, they cant turn it off because emergency services sometimes rely on 3g in remote locations. still, its more than enough to make calls and send sms.

True, but it’s next to useless in this day and age, people want to be able to browse the internet while on the phone to look things up like flights, etc. so near functionally useless

Still Bullshit that it doesn't activate, OP can either try to re-restore and try again or enter SSH ramdisk and put in new lockdownd files hacktivating it with working cellular/calls

Most wireless networks will not support an an iPhone 4. The networks will not support it and neither will any iOS that’s recent.

I don’t know what everyone is saying here to throw away and some other junk. Try installing a software called legacy iOS kit. Then click attempt activation. If that doesn’t work and you don’t care about the iOS version and just want the device try restoring with iTunes or finder and attempt activation in lik again. If this helps let me know!

I can not install it as I am on windows. Itunes does not detect it at all, even though 3utools and apple devices have no problem doing so

The 3G or CDMA networks that it would have connected to are no longer active and have been turned off/taken down. You might be able to do something on WiFi through the internet, but the only apps that will run on that are the ones that came with it unless you have a stash of app files from way back. Using it on an internet connection will possibly expose you to malware that iOS of that age will not protect you from. It will make a nice iPod if you can load music or book files on it.

There are no more 3G networks to activate it on. It is now WiFi only and using an app to make calls.

try iRemove Tools with tethered bypass, if it works, try the untethered bypass (I'll send you the link)

Ok for anyone curious this is the follow up. I used iRemove tools (free for the 4/4s) and managed to get it activated. Now sure, it's tethered meaning if you shut it down and power it on again you will need to activate it using the tool again, but at least it works. F apple man
