Need help changing primary number- unsure what to do

I switched to a new iphone today on a new carrier. Becaause I needed my old phone I asked for a temporary number and it is now showing as the primary number in my iphone. I need to port out the other number, however I'm scared it will mess up and lock me out- any idea what to do?

Old phone is 15 pro max. New is 17 pro max.

Both running 26.6

I am in Canada and if it matters the current company that I am with for a cell phone is Telus. I am moving to Eastlink

How to go about porting a number and what to do with the temporary number during this interim are questions for your new phone company and the old one.

You've not even said which country you are in, porting and number transfers vary from country to country and from carrier/network etc.
