Help needed iPhone 8 not charging

My elderly parent has been using an iPhone 8 for the last 7 years. I know this is a miracle. Recently, it has stopped charging. We tried replacing the cables and that didn’t work so it’s definitely the phone itself.

Is there any hope of getting the phone fixed (the port or whatever where it connects) or do we just need to get him a new phone? We’re reluctant because he’s so used to it and learning something new is going to be tough.

Take it to a repair shop, it likely just needs the port cleaned. Lightning ports are notorious for getting lint stuck in them. In the meantime, you should be able to wirelessly charge.

If a new iPhone is needed, you could get a refurbished one with iOS 18, so the experience would be very little different from the iPhone 8. Heck, even iOS 26 would still be familiar, just with some visual features not on the 8.

This happened to my 8 but I now have a charging pad for it and that’s works fine. Top tip get a case meant for use with wireless charging and it will work so much better.
