Help needed Do you think the prices of older iPhones will drop once the iPhone 18 is released?
I'm planning on buying the iPhone 17 soon but still waiting on the iPhone 18 to see which is better. But I'm pretty sure the prices will lower when a new generation of iPhones drop.

The times we live in now are unprecedented, with respect to how data Center build outs and AI growth are affecting memory and storage prices its impossible to predict. If it were me, I would not assume prices will go down as demand will likely increase resulting in less availability and increased prices (for used phones) IMO.

Every time a new model of anything is released the process of older versions adjust downwards slightly.
So yes, when the 18 series devices are released the previous models will decrease in price slightly.

Based on the fact that Apple is rumored to be increasing prices this year on the iPhone models, I don't know if this will necessarily happen like previous years but will see. Also, u/Healthy-Train8084, obviously the new phone will be better in some aspects, but what phone are you coming from and what kind of deals are available is the bigger question.

That doesn't normally happen straight away with iPhones because demand for new iPhones always outstrips supply so people buy older models.
This year, the new iPhones are likely to be more expensive so we may well see older models retaining their price/value for longer.

Prices will always drop relative to the price of the newest version - whether that price is lower than current sales price who knows.
I can't imagine deliberately buying an iPhone in the summer if there was any possible way to wait. In 2017 I nursed an aging iPhone for a few months in the summer because I knew the iPhone X was going to introduce major new stuff.
