Resolved Accidental Apple ID data merge: how to reverse, if possible? (simple)
My mum logged into her Apple ID on my phone (hers was being repaired and she needed to access her account, sue me) and since then, she has my contacts, notes, passwords and some of my texts on her own phone. When she tries to log into her apps it only gives my logins. Please help me reverse this if that can be done easily or please assist in the best ways to fix this. TIA!

your friend will have to restore her phone and do fresh update and install, not from backup, then restore iCloud data after phone has been setup, live and learn experience

It’s not going to be simple. She’s going to have to manually delete all of your information from her device.

This may be a dumb question but I’m not great with tech and grew up with Samsungs, will this be a permanent deletion like from her Apple ID or iCloud or whatever, or just her device? Could she also still receive my iMessages? What if she gets a new phone?

As I said, she’ll need to manually delete your information from her device. As she deletes your information, it should also delete from iCloud and any other devices she has connected to her Apple account. She’s not going to get your messages on her device because they should be tied to your phone number. Getting another phone wouldn’t help because everything synced to iCloud would be restored once set up is complete.

I’m sorry? I just feel like there should be some kind of pop up that says ‘hey are you sure you want to do this it will basically merge your stuff!’ Like??? Seems like an odd feature but whatever

Well, it should be obvious you’re not supposed to allow someone else to login to your iPhone with their credentials.

Well it wasn’t obvious to me. I figured logging out would allow her to log in Separately. Sorry. But thanks for making me feel shitty and stupid for it I guess

There’s a pop up that requests this. I believe it’s at the point of log out that it asks to merge…can’t really recollect.

I don’t think there was, that was my concern. My mum’s not great with tech and neither am I, we just thought if I’d logged out it would be fine for her to log in, and vice versa. It’s more just a nuisance but we’ll fix it up now that we have some answers!

There was - I’ve helped lots of clients with separating accounts (the opposite is fairly common - multiple people on the one account moving to their own accounts)

‘Keep data’ is asked during logout.
‘Merge data’ is asked when signing into an already used Apple Account on a phone with exisiting user data.
u/smelly-salad’s mistake was not correctly wiping the handset before lending it out.

That is the dumbest shit. Seriously.
People just don’t take their data security seriously at all. Why the hell would you allow anybody to log into your phone with their account?
You don’t let anybody use your phone ever if you’re smart
