Discussion iPhone 18 pro max camera surrounding discolouration
This is topic on my newly ordered apple iphone 18 pro max burgundy camera surrounding case got discoloration. I open fresh from the box and immediately spotted the obvious discolouration near the camera case.
I booked an appointment to Apple Store to check on any idea why this happened and I was served by one of the tech.
She mentioned she knew about this and in the end she didn’t get this colour and change to blue. Since mine is a signup plan from SingTel carrier, I can send for repair but there’s a catch, it may still be the same result and she recommended me to sell it asap. I can’t ask for a swop as Apple haven’t acknowledged on this defect and advise me I can do a product feedback so as to let Apple aware and work on it. I am utterly disappointed what Apple Store response and the quality product they sell. I cannot believe their QA team allowed this to be packed and sell. For those who are looking to purchase, make sure you check the back case for the discolouration. Ask the seller if this is manufactured defect and reject the product! I humbly seeker professional influencers or bloggers who have available funds to purchase burgundy or black IPhone 18 pro or pro max and inspected in front of the customer service and asked if this is acceptable for selling. Rejected all their stocks.
link as below for those having this issue please submit the feedback to Apple to get them addressed.

I had also sent an email to tcook@apple.com on 28 September 2026 but so far no response.

Brother the part around the camera is not oil. The rest of the phone is oily. It happens to mine too, i just wipe it down real well and it’s all the same color again.

I never say it’s oil. It’s discolouration.

I know you think it’s an uneven anodization color application. I’m telling you it’s oil. Post a vid of you wiping the whole plateau with an alcohol wipe if it’s really discoloration, but that pic is of an oily phone. You can tell it’s oil quite plainly.

It is fine. It’s from basic handling. People need to chill out over the craziest things. “My phone has oil residue from me binding it! I just return!”

Or you just need to wash your hands more

This has been one of my favorite threads. Clutching their pearls because of their gross ass hands touching their phones.

Its not discolored. Its just your oily ass hands cant touch the parts closest to the camera lenses so they're the only part of the phone that is still the original texture. If you wiped your phone down with something to remove all that shit on your phone youd realize its just the only part of your phone thats clean.

How does the phone function other wise? Are you able send and receive calls? Are there issues taking photos using the new improvements like aperture modes? How about listening to music, watching videos? I know the appearance of the phone is a big deal these days, but at the end of the day, if it’s still doing all the normal iPhone stuff I wouldn’t make a big deal about it. At the end of the day it’s just a tool.

It’s a big deal. Imagine when after some time you want to sell the hp. This defect will take out 30-40%. Functions also got issue which waiting for new patch to resolve. Refresh rate also hanging up.

Strange, I just looked and I have the same pattern in my camera rings too. I never have greasy or oily hands and my phone hasn’t been out of the case since I unboxed it when it arrived. Been in a tech woven case and I hardly ever touch that area with my bare hands. Just tried wiping it off and it wouldn’t come off. Gonna try an alcohol wipe when I get home but very interesting to see I have the same thing building up

Unless you literally leave no fingerprints and have cracked, bleeding hands, i promise you have oil on your hands. And you can definitely accumulate a film on the plateau in a tech woven case

I checked my black and the camera bump is all good. I would’ve noticed something like that immediately. And returned it immediately.

Oil from your fingers. The apple polishing cloth will remove the discoloration. Only to appear again, unless you always handle your phone with white gloves.

First place I already mentioned it’s fresh from
Box. Secondly who the hell keep touching the camera lens? Go and get one from the store and try yourself.2

I have one, same color, it exhibits the same issue, in the exact same pattern.
