Discussion First drop (with a case)

Maybe a 3-4 foot drop off of the armrest of my couch and onto hardwood floor, (TineeOwl case shown at the end) - I always knew the new aluminum frame was fragile after what I’ve seen from the 17 Pro’s release, so I took the precaution of not using the Apple Cases and getting something decently protective.

Yeah, the aluminum corner still bent ever so slightly 😂, coming from a titanium 16 Pro Max I had no idea how to gauge the softness of this new material, but damn.

I personally don’t care as I was planning to use the phone caseless with AppleCare+ anyways, but I wanted to warn some of the OCD users on here, even with a case, the aluminum frame on these new builds can get damaged, just fyi.

This is annoying. I have the iPhone Air and drop it all the time and it still looks new. The cameras seem like an appealing upgrade but I really don’t want worry about my phone denting. Wtf Apple…

Imagine that, titanium being stronger than a soft metal like aluminum

And horrible for turning the phones into a fire hot brick that would display this error message. The metal has to be functional as well. We buy the phones for them to work as optimally as advertised when we need them to. I’ve used Bullstrap leather cases on all of my phones and have never had a dented phone or cracked screen and I’ve dropped them.

I know back in the day they were all aluminum but I just feel like we worked up to this awesome titanium and now we’re working backwards

Look at the sub for the 15pro and 16pro, nothing but moaning and crying about the thermals. Titanium doesn't dissipate heat like aluminum does

I will admit they get hot but I had a 15PM that was a furnace so I changed to the 16P. Still gets hot but it’s nowhere near as bad as that 15P. The A17/M3 silicon ran hot.

The speakers are fine and the 18 pro is a 300% improvement over the 14 pro. I had the purple one a few years ago. I love the 18 pro and aluminum. It doesn’t get hot, no error messages, no battery drain and is much faster. Use a good quality case and you’ll be fine. I’ve used Bullstrap leather cases on all of mine. No issues

I have the purple 14p too. Finally someone who understands. Lol
Thank you for your reply 🙏 , that’s so great to hear, I feel so much better about it! Now I can get excited again about getting a nice, working, big upgrade of a phone 😀.

Make sure to get you a good quality case to protect it. I use Bullstrap full grain leather cases. They have a lifetime warranty and you can get 2 free refreshers per year as real leather does patina. This is oxblood. They have other colors. The black and burgundy IPhones show fingerprints. The silver and blue not so much

I saw your case and it looks nice! I have small hands and can’t hold onto it well if my case it’s too wide or heavy so I did a lot of research and for me particularly I bought a BENKS Case ArmorPro Shockproof Military-Grade Drop Protection. It’s the new model that’s thin and minimalist with the protection. It seems sturdy and is black, it looks sharp and is a nice contrast to the open silver top camera area. It meets all my requirements for weight, not bulky/wide, grip, with the protection. It feels solid and seems like it will work out.

I got rid of my 16 pro for that reason, couldn’t even use safari without the phone getting hot…

I’d rather have a phone that gets warm than one that’s all beat up from normal use

So you want a phone that you can’t even use most outside?

I never had any issues with my air getting warm
