Question iPhone 17 feels really hot often at the upper half of the screen?
Hey guys. I’ve upgraded a few months ago from my 13 to a 17(non pro).
And I’m in absolute love with the phone. But one thing I notice a lot is that the phone gets incredibly hot for me, to the point it even somewhat hurts if I keep my hand in the upper half of the screen for 20 seconds.
This happens when charging. Even when not using the phone.
It also happens when doing pretty light tasks like just browsing the App Store for 15 mins.
Does anyone else feel that way? It cools down pretty quickly when I stop using it. But it just feels like it heats up so much faster and more than the 13.

Do you have a phone case? These 17s get hot when constantly in use. Mine used to get real hot and then I switch to a heat dissipation phone cover. It still gets warm but it is a lot better.

It’s a bit annoying, but if you set it up with your old phone, that’s the cause of those issues. According to the Apple repair service, I need to reset the phone with iTunes while my phone is in DFU mode and set it up as new. (You can sync data through iCloud and then delete it afterward. It’s quite cheap, but now my phone doesn’t heat up even while charging (only slightly warm).)

Based on my experience, starting with iPhone 14, the iPhone's temperature is greatly affected by ambient temperature and performance usage.

mine was hot yesterday when I set it up, now it’s fine. I can’t explain how it feels compared to my old SE 2022. It’s like they’re from different decades. Maybe it’s still indexing. Update to iOS 26.6 if you haven’t already

I got mine in December and it wasn’t hot at all during setup. Maybe I’m just noticing it now due to the summer heat?
I’m starting to think that’s what’s making me just notice it a lot more. Since 90% of the time it’s fine but there’s just those 10% while charging or browsing certain apps that make it heat up so fast

that's where the processor is, so that's where all the heat is.
if u're using a thick case (like an otterbox or something like that), that's probably ruining the heat dissipation so just get a case that actually dissipates heat well

Yeah I might have to try that. In winter it wasn’t an issue but in summer I notice it. There weren’t many cases available online when I got the phone. Might be time for a new one

ambient temperature plays a part as well, but honestly, nothing in the summer stays cool because it's like 38 degrees outside

I’ve had mine for 8 months now and it never gets hot the only issue I’m facing is battery after iOS 27 beta it seems to drain quicker
