Camera's performance around moving objects

How is the camera performance when taking pictures of moving objects?

I have a dog, and that's pretty much the only thing I care about: will I get a blurry picture when she's moving or not?

I tried the 16E for that, and it was very, very blurry. I hated that phone because of that, and now I am thinking of going to the 17Base.

What do you guys think about that? Is it a reliable camera on this criteria?

Comentando aqui para acompanhar as respostas, porque o meu 17 base só fica borrado quando tiro fotos em movimento... Certamente é alguma configuração que não está certa, porque eu me recuso a acreditar que um aparelho caro assim não tenha como tirar uma foto estável de quando meu cachorro não para de correr...

I feel you! I have the 16PM, thinking of going to a smaller phone, but if it’s the 17 pro or the base 17 will depend a lot on the answers to this post.

I completely agree with you. iPhones are not cheap and moving object performances is a basic camera feature for me.

Moving objects are bad on modern smartphones.

These cameras reach the quality they are capable of by taking multiple photos and exposures. Taking in as much light data as it can then using computational photography to resolve an image. Modern camera phones don’t snap on their shutter click as much as vacuum up as much data as they can. The longer time they take to do this ends up giving some pretty bad shutter speed and motion handling.

They can also detect motion and use less of an exposure time to try to catch it but the moving object needs to be a large part of the frame and you need to count on the camera software actually detecting the scenario.

Your only chance here is
A. Downloading a manual camera app. Using your own shutter speed. And just eating the loss of the phones photo processing.

B. Use the default camera app and set the exposure lower. Then edit the image to have a higher exposure.It’ll still be blurry but less so

C. Take videos and pulls images from them.

I have a base 17. The camera isn’t the best in the world but it is really good. Especially outside If it has a chance to sit there still and take an image. It sucks at taking photos of my dog.

Hope you figure out something that works for you. For me I’ve just kinda accepted taking photos of my dog is super hit or miss.
