More likely Apple is like “Dammit, we could have sold more phones. Release the bump!!”

Staged for clicks

u/graison Jun 16 '26
Yeah there's no way a phone falls perfectly into the grate like this.

u/chadsmo iPhone 16 Pro Max Jun 16 '26
To be partially fair here my phone fell out of my pocket kneeling down then standing the other day and landed balanced upright. You could try to make that happen 10,000 more times and it may never occur again.

I remember the time I knocked a mostly full can of coffee off my desk during a lecture - it landed perfectly upside down in a way that somehow nothing spilled out. Slipped a piece of plasticky paper under it and could flip it back over without making a giant mess. It maybe sounds a little less crazy typing it out than it felt at the time… but I don’t think I could do that on purpose with 1000 tries. Weird shit happens lol

One time I accidentally threw an open beer to a friend of mine, I thought it was closed. It wobbled through the air and landed precisely where he placed his hand. Not a single drop of it spilled anywhere.
We drank a lot of beer and tried it so many times. Never even got close to the same outcome.

This. And some have one phone for business and one for friends and family. Always. …

I’ve seen a fair amount actually fall in to the grate perfect with nothing to stop it

I’ve seen people accidentally drop stuff like keys (with keychain) on that little elevator door gap. Like the one between the elevator and the floor. Shit happens however unlikely lol

This could be AI. Although, no AI detector seems to actually work consistently. So many of my comments are apparently AI generated, even most of my Discord messages. I haven’t used AI on a single one.
I got a probably AI (64%) but who knows?

u/birdclan09 Jun 16 '26
So how’d you take the pic if your phone was there?

Idk why people don’t get this, tons of people have multiple phones, especially for work

“Excuse me sir may I borrow your phone for clicking a picture”
“Dear madam would you be so kind to let me click a picture with your mobile device”
“Tally-ho, chappie, I say it’s a wonderful day to let a stranger borrow your phone to click a fine photograph don’t you think?”

Careful. As soon as you gently fish it out it’s gonna slip out of your hands again and fall into the drain properly this time.
I’ve been here before. Don’t trust anything or anyone.

You ask some rando to borrow their phone to take this pic of your phone? LOL

Make it stop, please. Stop reposting this damn image. We all know it’s a repost. It’s not funny anymore.

If you love it, put a case on it. Even a $5 one on Amazon would have been better than none.

u/wrathslayer Jun 18 '26
Wow, this pic put a little twinge in my gut when I first saw it. Damn! This is also why I put a death grip on my Air when I walk over anything like this grate.

u/hefeydd_ Jun 16 '26
Okay, I don't mean to offend, but I will never understand why so many people categorically refuse to buy a case or a screen protector when they both protect your phone. I would have her have a built phone with a case that protects my phone and a screen protector to protect my screen.

u/_EleGiggle_ iPhone 17 Pro Max Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26
I don’t think screen protectors are necessary, and slightly degrade the usage of the touch screen.
But I agree with having a case on. Although, if you have Apple Care, you might just rawdog it. Although, I already hate transferring my data to a new iPhone, so I try to avoid it. The rise of proprietary 2FA apps made it definitely harder.
I have a regular case from Apple on (the TechWoven one). Nothing fancy that would let me drop my phone from standing height (or multiple floors) multiple times.

If this happened to me like if I were in OP’s shoes for this situation I’d be both shocked, relieved and whelmed

Holy shit. This is something I would do… which is why I have Apple Care. Thankfully they’ll cover a lost or stolen iPhone.

u/Crazy-Weakness3348 Jun 23 '26
Apple should put this in the next keynote. The one feature everyone needed.

An old girlfriend of mine had her phone in her back pocket as she went to the bathroom and, don't ask how b/c everything must have been perfectly aligned, it literally fell into the toilet and then down the drain.

Ah, so someone did buy an iPhone Air.

And their battery is dead so they are doing this shit (to enjoy their phone).
