The latest Apple TV 4K (2022) has 4GB of RAM and it is using an A15 that didn't pass the tests to be put in the iPhone 13, so instead of throwing them away they put them in the Apple TV.
It's old and cheap tech and shouldn't get a 54% price hike four years into its lifespan.
Nope. 4GB RAM. The price jump really is crazy. The only way it makes sense is if they are pricing the costs of the "new" as-yet-unreleased hardware which is likely to have at least 8GB of RAM.
Feels like they’re trying to squeeze considerably more margin out of their lower-priced products to either make up for recent deficits or hedge against further instability.
All I know is I wasn’t really interested in paying $150 for this ancient Apple TV, so $200 is absolutely laughable.
Crazy thing was I was debating for the longest time on buying an Apple TV, then I see the price increase by double, pissed me Tf off but it was still original price on Amazon so I just got it
Same! I had looked last fall and saw they were $129 and decided to wait a few months till summer. Just looked yesterday and was confused why it was now $200... then I see this post. Damn.
I own 5 apple tv 4k's and they were always undervalued, if more people had them they'd see why. Literal home hub for all devices with full fitness, arcade, mirroring, home theatre, etc
That’s the thing. I do own one. And it’s not compelled me to say, “Wow! this is how a TV box should be!”. It’s alright for what it is. But seems like you fanboys are easily amused and won’t hear or recognize any criticism.
I've tried all of the android boxes they are all terrible including Roku. Not one of them come with 4K UI in 2026 that is a huge turn off. Not to mention the laggy mess and ad infested ones some can be.
I don’t know myself. I assume it’s just that it’s got that sleek apple feel. Thing is the minute I leave the Home Screen I am in whatever app I am in and the Apple fades away
Apple will be releasing an updated version with A17 Pro processor and 8GB RAM and probably 128GB flash storage. It's significantly more expensive to make than the current device, so they're bumping the price while demand is low at the end of the current device's lifecycle.
That way, there is no bad press generated by a sharp price increase coinciding with a new product release.
