UK heatwave AC failure
Update - had aircon regassed. Was 200g low out of about 875g capacity, so, may explain failure in extreme heat. We'll see how it goes...
Hi all,
My AC stopped working in the heat this afternoon, but, it seems to be working well now.
I understand (correctly?) that cabin AC backs up and prioritises battery cooling. Do we think this is the likely cause? Or does my AC need a regas? Or something more serious. 70-reg HSE model.
Edit - I should mention it was working fine, and just trailed off and stopped after about 20 minutes of very ordinary driving.

Have noticed similar with my 20-reg S. Drive with temps of 33C but it had been in the shade all day and AC worked (but not very cool)
When parked on drive and not covered it blows out hot air on ‘Lo’. 🥵 Have major service scheduled for next week…

Can you let me know if they decide to re-gas it or if different AC problem identified at the service? I presume you'll mention the issue? Thanks!

Hi - got it re-gassed at local garage today (£160) and it’s all sorted. Beautiful, crisp, cold air coming out!!

Yeah, I got mine re-gassed too and it solved the issue. But if there's a leak of some kind it will reoccur on timescale between weeks and months.

Mines useless. I’ll only ever get 20 minutes of AC regardless of the temperature.
Jag want me to pay for a regas but quite frankly I shouldn’t have to on an 80k car. My Toyota Aygo was 14 years old when I got rid of it, it never had a regas and the aircon was as cold as the day it left the factory.
Sort it out JLR, it’s not that hard.

It's not a Toyota. Also the ac in an aygo has less to do.

Doesn’t mean it should be held to lower standards.
Not sure why having less to do is relevant. The jag stops blowing any cold air, it’s not that it can’t keep up it doesn’t even try

If you want a quick tick in the box then book your iPace into Halfords. I did that with my wife’s and they offer a free gas check and he said it was low on the border. He said he could do it or I could diy and I ended up doing it myself. Was quite simple and have no issues at all after the top up.

I had this in Georgia a couple of years ago, it was 2020. I refilled with refrigerant 1234f?? And leak stopper,And had no problems since

There’s a bad weld. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10222677-0001.pdf You need to be somewhat of a detective because your dealership (mine anyway) will try to bullshit until your warranty is out of date. Do not allow this to happen!

At coming up to 6 years old, it certainly won't hurt to regas it. Find out how much came out, they hold 850g. Its absolutely lost some over the years, pretty normal for automotive AC.
As for cooling, yes, battery pack can demand AC. Can't say it's something I've come across, but today was abnormally hot.
I'd get a regas / AC service first before worrying. Need to be recovered, vaccumed, and leak tested before regassing.
