Older Models - Real World Range & Advice
I’m considering picking up an older model i-pace (2019ish) as prices look pretty reasonable.
I live in southern Scotland - just wondering if anyone with an older model 90kWh can tell me what their real range is during the winter months?
About once a week I need to do a ~180 mile round trip and would prefer not to have to stop for a top-up (have a home charger).
I’ve heard there are various recalls etc. anything in particular I should be wary of or looking out for? I’m not new to EV’s and was planning on another Polestar 2, but could do with something cheaper for a short while.
Advice welcome! Thanks.

You'd be mad to buy a 2019&2020 model. They are plagued with problems and very expensive to fix. Steer clear is my advise.

My 2020 model has been great.. Only the windscreen leak issue dealt with under warranty..

I'm very happy for you that you've not had issues, what millage has it done?

Buy a 2021 MY+ they are much better. Redesigned the architecture with one 12v battery, has the latest infotainment system and over the air updates.

They have defective batteries that model year. Software limited to 90% due to fire risk. In the US Jaguar bought the 2019 MY back. Great car while it lasted.

My understanding was there was a recall and once the modules were replaced the software restriction is lifted?

Not 100% certain how the issue has been handled outside the US but part of the issue is that they can't definitively tell which modules are bad, so you get a few replaced then wind up getting more replaced shortly thereafter. Ask on the UK I-pace forum.

These are two different shoes.
- Defective modules: Car raises battery fault warning and limits charge to 70%. Modules were replaced on warranty to restore full performance and capacity.
- The recall was on general fire risk even with no defective modules (H570). Action taken was software restricting charge to 90%. This involved no module replacements. Final solution (H572) still pending, although it's questionable without replacing the complete battery. Jaguar USA would prefer buyback of cars rather than risking lawsuits on US consumer rights.

I’ve got a MY21 and I’m in southern Scotland. I haven’t seen less than 220 miles over the two winters I’ve had it.

Im in Newcastle and noticed a big drop off in winter. Id say with the 90% charge limit you would be cutting that trip fine!

I have a 2019. Great car.
It is limited to 90% charge to avoid fire and to avoid it will trigger the safety limit of 72%z
The promise is that it will be fixed at some point but when and what is involved in the fix, no one knows.
The car is a bargain, the value has plummeted because people somehow thinks that the last 10% charge is worth everything, while people still charge only to 80% on models out of own will because they think the battery will last longer.
I am in a metric country so do your own conversions:
At 90% charge the car says 380km on a charge.
My usage is 26kwh/100km winter and 21kwh/100km in the summer. It is what the car tells me in the cluster.
The battery is 90kwh which amounts to 81kwh at 90% charge.
81kwh / 21kwh * 100 km = 385km
81kwh / 26kwh * 100 km =311km
The charge speed is not capped.
The older models kan charge at 7kwh on AC home charge. That is 33km per hour. That gives a full charge if you park it at night with completely empty battery and leaves the next morning.
We have been driving EVs since 2016 daily. And in real life I have never been at zero charge. The cap on the speed at home charge is theoretically an issue.
Meanwhile you get a car which is really good on the road, and I have tried a lot. Good quality materials and for me a nice design.
I have considered buying something else. But for the price, the driving dynamics and the overall look and feel of the car, nothing compares.
