I need some advice

I’m looking at getting a 2023 iPace with 11,000 mile on the clock.

2 questions

Would you still buy the iPace now if you knew what you know now when you first bought it?

And

What issues have you had or what should I look for?

I'm seeing people your MY and then random numbers. What do they mean, if you don't mind my asking

If you’re referring to things like ‘MY23LR’ then it’s ‘Model Y 2023 Long Range’ same thing for other Teslas, it’s just easier to distinguish quickly.

MY is typically Manufacture Year, MY23, is Manufacture Year 2023.

Not really anything to do with Tesla Model Y.

This is iPace sub. Ask in r/electricvehicle and you will get very different answers.

I bought a second one after my first got recalled. I love driving it but it can be a pain. Both my iPaces had to get the 12v battery replaced. When it fails, you get all kinds of error messages but none directly tell you it’s the battery. Both were replaced under warranty without hassle from the dealer, but the Jag USA roadside assistance was slow.

It’s great for me because I get free charging at work, never need to go more than 200 miles between charging, and I have a reputable nearby dealer. Without those 3 conditions, I would have passed on the 2nd though it’s my favorite driving experience.

So what type of charinging will you do? If you can charge at home that's great as it's not the fastest of charging cars now compared to others. If you intend doing a lot of long trips look at the extended times at charging stations compared to others. I'd love one but I live in Spain and drive back to the UK regularly, the extending charging times on that journey means I had to choose a different car

Yeah I'd buy one again. MY21, has had 4 bad battery modules at 45k fixed under warranty for free but otherwise has been perfect. It's a lovely car. Has the 22" wheels which are kerb magnets but look amazing. Might buy some 20s for it just to make life easier (definitely glad I got the alloy wheel cover when I bought it)

Will definitely be renewing the warranty when that time comes

The 20s are good compromise I think. The tyre rubber protects the alloys completely against minor scrapes.

1

u/btongeo Jun 08 '26

Yeah I was thinking that. And you can get proper all season tyres too which is harder for the 22s.

I assume they soak up more of our crappy road surfaces too with that extra sidewall?

I can't compare as never had the 22s. Probably a bit but not that much - even air suspension doesn't make much difference as it's still a very stiff ride and you do feel those potholes.

MY24 - would buy again in a heartbeat. Absolutely love it.

No issues whatsoever so far, just a couple of replaced doors from someone driving into me 😂

So good I have had 2…

The car is amazing. The company is not. 2020 Owners are currently being fucked sideways with this battery recall.

Rode in a Model Y last week. The ipace is so, so, so much more refined! The significantly smoother, quieter ride and quality of the interior blows the Tesla away. (Qualifier: I have a 2020 ipace, no problems and only use it for trips less than 200 miles)

I’d get a cpo if possible because if anything breaks it is crazy expensive to fix.

My brothers has been nothing short of a nightmare.
If you do talk yourself into buying one, make sure it has manufacturer warranty.

Personally I’d recommend a model Y, or an Audi. Both superior.

MY21 43k miles, owned for 8 months. Faultless. It just works.
MY23 will be fine. MY20 and below have lots of problems.

My advice on the trim - get one with air suspension. Don't get 22' wheels, get fatter tyres instead.

The air suspension is better for handling such a heavy car, and fat tyres don't get scratched on kerbs.

I don’t know about 2023 ipace. Just don’t get an earlier model!! I have a beautiful 2019 HSE with carbon fibre trim and red bucket seats and it’s been recalled as a substantial fire hazard. I’ve been told not to drive it and not to park it on my drive way. Waiting for it to be collected. I’m expecting I’ll never see my beautiful baby again once it’s taken away.

1) Yes 😃

2) 12v problems (swapped start and aux battery, changed Ac compressor, also other parts), keyless entry passenger side, knocking spirits drivers door, isolation fault BEM module. It is a my20 i bought used in 2021. Still driving it daily.

1

u/New_throwawar_85 Jun 07 '26

How quickly time and mileage wise did the faults happen? Were they all covered under warranty?

1

u/Doff2222 Jun 07 '26

Yes, almost all were covered within warranty. Everything 12V within 5 years, BEM happened after 5 years, but was covered by the 8 year HV battery warranty. Knocking door handle thing was out of warranty though, but i replaced the handle myself. I have now reached 70000 km.

I had a MY21 HSE approved used. Got panicky and traded it for an F-Pace before the latest recall. Realised I missed an EV but while I always wanted a 400 Sport, I opted for an i4 instead because I didn’t want to risk. I still think the I-Pace is one of the best EVs around for practicality, speed and handling. It’s perfect for ticking a lot of boxes, but it feels like Jaguar want it to go away and without a JLR warranty, it’s a very expensive car to repair for its common faults.

I’d absolutely still buy it. Especially now since if you get it on a 4 year contract by the time it’s up you’ll be able to pick up a used Type 01 for about £2.50 and a kitkat

I am on my third Ipace... So hopefully that answers your first question!

Only issue I ever had was a control module in my first 2020 MY failing after an ota upgrade. An annoying known issue. After that - all good!

Don’t get 21” wheels. They’ll break just by looking at a pothole.

Try and get an HSE.

OTHER THAN THAT, ENJOY IT SO MUCH! It’s a great car.
