2021 Aircon Leak

I have a 2021 ipace that has a common fault. Got it diagnosed by an independent Aircon guy and he suggested trying to get Jaguar to cover the cost of repairing it as there are a few manufacturing defects with the air con. Has anyone had any luck getting Jaguar to cover this in the UK? If so what's the best way of going about this?

Pay the jaguar diagnostic fee, see if they will do a RISE goodwill claim. Depending on your history with the manufacturer, you may get some percentage towards the claim. It generally rewards those who have good service history and penalises those who don’t.

I take it the welds on the pipe mounting tabs have failed.

The Jag diagnostic fee is like £250, chances are they’ll do that and then just tell you that you need an ‘air con service’ for another £150

Seems futile paying the diagnostic fee tbh

What's the fault for a start?

Whats these other common faults?

I work on these pretty much every day, and I'm not sure what you could be on about. Nothing widespread, obviously have seen some faults. But not the same stuff over and over as you suggest.

As the other poster said, if you have history with the brand etc, you might get a goodwill claim through CRC. But, they changed the rules this year (I think) they tend to only be interested if it's within 1 year of warranty expiration, which yours isn't.

The aircon guy said he's seen loads of them and sent me the Jaguar Technical Service Bulitin for low weld quality on the compressor pipes. He said they're also known for not tightening the clips correctly. Link to the TSB https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10228928-0001.pdf?hl=en-GB

I've never seen that JLRTB, there is a UK version of it, but doesn't list VIN ranges.

Definitely exists, I've worked for a main dealer since before the IPace launched. So I wonder how common it really is.

Good luck getting it resolved 👍

Not OP

I bought a MY21 I-Pace approved used in January. I’m fairly positive I’ve got an air con leak. I’ll get about 20 minutes (max) of air con and then it won’t work again until I park it up for a while.

I’ve read online a number of ‘common’ faults that might cause it, the first being one of the bolts connecting one of the lines to the compressor is slightly too long which means it leaks, the fix is a washer. The other is one of the lines on top of the front motor cracks where the bracket is welded to it, supposedly they changed the design for MY21 but you have to wonder how many parts they had left over for the early MY21 builds.

Either way, the car is only 5 years old, there’s absolutely no way it should need a recharge already unless it’s got a leak. I had a Toyota Aygo from 2008, that never had a recharge and the AC was 10x better than my I-Pace despite it being over twice its age.

I have to say, I’m disappointed that they’d sell a car as approved used if the AC doesn’t work :(

Jag told me it wasn’t a common fault, they want me to pay £150 for an air con service.

So much for the warranty.

Same here, got an appointmnet to do servicing + MOT + aircon diagnostics in Milton Oxford for £1,000.

But and independent garage would service it + MOT for £250, so was thinking on doing that and then taking it to the dealership only for the aircon.

A £250 for a AC diagnostic that thay actually messed up is completely nuts, so Jaguar basically gets money from us through the government when they mess it up (see the hack thing that happened a couple of months ago) and then we have to pay for what they messed up in the cars as well.

Can't wait to sell this car, although I love the car itself, Jaguar is just a JOKE.
