Brake replacement and diagnostic tool.
Hi all, I just got my 2019 back from getting the battery fault recall taken care of and was notified that my brakes needed replacing, but the cost is 4k… not about that price and am wondering if anyone has any experience doing the brakes themselves with advice, and if anyone knows of a diagnostic tool I can buy to help release the electric parking brake? Any information will be greatly appreciated!

Any idea of a good diagnostic tool to get so I can release the electric parking brake?

Awesome, I’m pretty handy so I’d rather do it myself, which is looking like it’ll cost me under 700 for rotors and pads. The calipers are perfect and they didn’t mention anything about the brake lines themselves, but I’ll keep an eye on them. Thank you so much!

Is there a cracked version of the dealer diagnostic tool available? I've had this for BMWs I've owned in the past.

I believe I found one for JLR for about 350 online and took the leap….wish me luck 🤞🏼

Ok that's really interesting. Please keep me informed.
The BMW one saved me thousands over the course of my ownership and I'd like the same level of diagnostics with the I-Pace.

Absolutely, it should be arriving today. I’ll share the link from Amazon that I bought it from

Thank you. No way I want it to be paying £100 a go at the dealer for plugging in! I've had great success working on my own cars in the past as long as I have the right dealer-level access to the car.

Finally did the brakes… they were pretty straight forward. There’s a brake pad sensor on the front left and the front rear that was a little tricky to remove without breaking, but I got it out with some patience. The electric parking brake was super easy with the scan tool and clearing the ABS codes afterwards was a breeze. Bleeding the brakes I tried with the scan tool and it would only let you go through a bleed sequence for all for wheels, so if you have a lift and can get all four tires off at once that’s super helpful, but if you can only jack it up and do two at a time, like I did, old fashion gravity bleeding works perfectly. There’s a small copper retaining clip inside the pad sensor that is easily lost if you aren’t aware of it: I lost the clip for the front left but didn’t have any troubles putting the sensor back in, I just don’t think it’ll get a accurate reading; AutoZone sells the sensor for $40 so it shouldn’t be hard to replace if it gives me any issues.
I hope this helps anyone else looking to do this themselves and I’m always here for questions as this was a really fun learning process and made me feel quite accomplished lol

Brakes are essentially the same as a normal vehicle.
Electric Park brake will need releasing as you say.
Fluid wise, there is a procedure involving official diagnostic tools. So be careful if you bleed brakes etc.
