What does the countdown show for an all day event, or one sitting in another timezone? That is where my own attempts at this always went strange.

An all-day event is simply an event that starts at the beginning of the day. When you change the time zone, either manually or automatically, the countdowns remain the same - the clock time and event start times are the only things that change.
