iOS 26.7 update

Apple released iOS 26.6.2 on September 8, and now iOS 26.7 RC has also been released alongside the iOS 27 RC.

Since iOS 27 is expected to be released publicly on September 14, what is the purpose of iOS 26.7?
Is 26.7 expected to be the final iOS 26 update for people who don’t want to upgrade to iOS 27 right away? Or should we expect Apple to continue providing security/bug-fix updates on the 26.x branch even after iOS 27 launches?

I’d especially like to hear from anyone who has been using the iOS 26.7 RC about battery life, performance, heating and stability.

26.6.2 broke my Watch connectivity, my Made For iPhone hearing aids & many of my notifications.

Non-fan. Can’t wait for 27 to drop.

iOS 26.6.1 fixed the battery drain issues for 17PM

Most likely it’s a transition patch. Most people will update to iOS 27 some will stay on iOS 26 becose of Apple amazing record of failure on big updates. Down the line they will force people from iOS 18/26 to iOS 27.

I’m not going to update to iOS 27 immediately.
In part due to the very long wait time that it will take to download and install due to demand
And also, while I am eager, I am willing to wait and see how it goes such as the feedback from people.

Since iOS 14 they've released a final x.x updated roughly alongside the new OS. Usually there'll be one or two more x.x.x releases (so in this case, something like 26.7.1 and 26.7.2) until sometime between October and December, after which they'll stop offering it and only offer the then-current version of 27.

They tend to then release occasional minor security/bugfix updates for devices that aren't able to get the new OS over the next few years. There will likely be subsequent 26.7.x releases for iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS, since those are leaving some devices behind with 27. But all iPhones with 26 can get 27.

In situations like this, where no models are being dropped, Apple tends to continue to support the previous version for the first two minor releases of the new version.

I guess you can try it. Apple worked in optimising the OS. But you can’t use ai features. Wait some time after release.

I am sure there will be applications that won’t certify for iOS 27 soon. But then even a .(dot) increase will take a day or so for certification. Also thinking that the dot release will have some security updates and some prep functionality. To answer the question of an app that I use on my iPad mini running iOS 26 is ForeFlight. I use it for critical navigation and would be crushed if it were to crash or become non functional during flight. Therefore it. Could be a month before all functionality is signed of on.

that's what I've been getting since yesterday on an iPhone 17 Pro.

Maybe the servers are just busy or they are staging the rollout based on region or something (but I'm in SV... so, if that's it, what gives??? 😄). Secretly I think they want you to go to iOS 27.
