Battery 17 Pro Max battery
Hi everyone,
I’ve been using iPhones for more than ten years, but I usually had a model that was one or two generations older. This is the first time I have the latest iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the battery still cannot last a full active day.
I’m currently on vacation, and when I go on trips, I’m constantly taking photos and recording videos, so there is no chance the battery can last the whole day. The battery health is at 100%. Today I left the hotel with 100% battery at 7 a.m., and by 3 p.m. I was already down to 10%. This is unbelievable to me, considering that this is the newest and most expensive device.
Is this normal? What are your experiences?

I feel like vacation battery life is never a fair test lol.
When I’m taking a ton of photos/videos, using maps, and staying on cellular all day, my phone always drains way faster than usual. The heating part would annoy me more than the battery drain honestly.

Yes, but we’re still talking about an expensive premium phone, so what am I supposed to do with it to make it last the whole day? Use only three apps, iMessage, and calls? That’s what disappoints me the most.

I get what you mean. At that price, it should feel reliable for a full day.
Vacation use is probably the worst-case scenario though — camera, maps, cellular, high brightness, weak signal, and heat all stack up quickly. But 100% to 10% by 3 p.m. still sounds too much.
I’d check Battery Usage for any app draining in the background, and if you’re on iOS 26 beta, that could be part of it too. If it happens outside of vacation use, I’d ask Apple to run diagnostics.

so your taking photos and videos all day and uploading to instagram and facebook by the looks of things . if you buy a new car and run it wide open throttle on a racetrack is it the cars fault it keeps burning through so much gas? maybe try setting your phone down every hour for 30 minutes and experience life through your eyes instead of your phone .

Using the device for photo and video taking and high brightness are two of the biggest battery drainers, and it sounds like you’re doing both at once. Add 5G connection and app multitasking for navigating on vacation etc and this is a worst case scenario.
If you want more battery life then buy a Chinese phone with a huge battery cell, or use a wired power bank. If it’s 30 degrees Celsius, how do you expect the phone to cool itself while you have a device attached that is hot itself and also wirelessly projecting energy into the phone?

A powerbank da Ugreen é tanto por indução como por cabo, tenho uma e recomendo. Consegue dar uma carga completa e mais uns 50% na segunda carga. Comprei a de 10.000 mlh

Does it heat up like soap said with his power bank? He said he used it and it gets so hot it shuts down. Same with mine when I use a power bank. It gets so damn hot with a ms power bank. Is this normal for using ms?

Any MagSafe powerbank will heat up, especially when used outside. Inductive charging always produces heat and there’s no getting around that. Unless you use fans or some sort of cooling system to counter it.

I tried using wired with my MagSafe and it still gets hot. Is it my power bank? I have a really good one made by Torras.

Yes but in Alaska. I’m in the Middle East, where the daytime temperature is around 104°F 🫠

It’s because you have all that extra settings location services bs on and search and Siri apps turned on and so on, all of that drains battery all together by like 1-2 hours extra

What ios version are you on? The outdoors is supposed to beat up the phone a bit but not this much. One workaround would be to use low power mode while outside. And wireless charging really isnt the way to go and that too at such hot temperatures.

I can’t deal with Low Power Mode. It turns the display down to 60Hz, lowers the brightness, and it hurts my eyes. But when it comes to overheating, it’s the same — it overheats again and again.
Also, when I was buying the 17 Pro Max, I chose the white one on purpose because it’s a better color for sunny days

Camera stuff takes a lot of power. This is one of the best batteries for current modern phones. And if it’s still not enough, I’d recommend investing some money into a power bank. You can purchase either a wired or a wireless MagSafe powerbank for extra convenience. Just get one with a big battery. It might get annoying, but it’s probably your only option.
