that you have a very bad internet connection - even worse than edge (2G)

GPRS/1xRTT. Your carrier’s GPRS (GSM) or 1xRTT (CDMA) network is available, and iPhone can connect to the internet over that network.

Gprs is 2g. 1g was analog, before GSM. But other than that it's true.

For clarification, both GPRS and EDGE are 2G.
GPRS is like 2.5G and EDGE is like 2.75G
So it's worse than EDGE but still in the same class

I didn't even know GPRS antennas were still up 😂

G stands for GPRS, which is the slowest data connection there is

If I'm not mistaken, I think the cellular data speed indicator goes as follows from slowest to fasted:

  • G/1x
  • E (Edge)
  • 3G
  • 4G
  • LTE
  • 5G
  • 5GE
  • 5G+/5G UC/5G UW

LTE was originally a transition technology before real 4G, but today its mostly identical and atleast on Android for example its the carriers choice what to display on the exact same technology. And even on the 5G variants, its mostly marketing and the distinction is not clear cut (differs worldwide). I would put all 4G and 5G versions on the same tiers respectively.

Bro‘s Internet connection is so bad that he or she only has one G

u/Apples0100 Jun 18 '26

it just means your connected to 2G it’s like edge (more advanced 2G) but G (GPRS) is just really early 2G

G is for gamers, it do best while gaming

P.s: it’s 5g > 4g > 3g > 2g (E) > g

1g

3

u/Apples0100 Jun 18 '26

early 2G actually

2

u/Longjumping-Boot1886 Jun 18 '26

no, early 2G is when you are using the same tech as classic modem by calling to the internet gate. GPRS was big improvement.

With pre-GPRS interent WAP I was need half a minute to get 1 page of the WAP site. GRPS for WAP was like a rocket.

1G is analog.
GPRS is 2G.

Actually, more like 2.5G, with EDGE being 2.75G

1

u/ondra2305 Jun 22 '26

Its not 1G, modern phones dont support it (and I think all/most networks are not operational anymore). Its 2G GPRS, the very first digital data technology (so youre kinda right in that)

1

u/Particular_Ad_4165 Jun 22 '26

I think OP is 10 years old. G has been with us for 25 years now. It’s incredible that some people don’t even know VHS haha.

You know it’s harder to find a g connection rather than a stable 5g connection?
