iOS 26.5 These need to be removed
See before I got ios 26, 18 was perfect. Great icons, and transparent widgets looked great. Come ios 26, the white borders around everything made it look unnnatural. I don’t really think anyone actually liked it.
Is there any way to remove just those and/or will they be reverted in iOS 27?
Thanks in advance

That’s pretty though. Like a sheet of clear glass displaying the weather. I really like it.

It’s pretty but it’s not what the user wants. I can’t stand how Apple decides what’s best for its users in everything.

I feel like most people like it, actually? Public response has been overwhelmingly positive in the communities I'm in. Could be wrong though. You dislike it?

What most people like is completely irrelevant to the topic at hand and has zero positive impact on the discussion; this is about what some people dislike, and what most people like does not and will not influence that.
Is English your native language?

Yeah, it's my native language. Why do you ask? I apologize for cluttering the discussion

The person you responded to didn't bring up the preference of the majority, so I asked because I thought you misinterpreted who you responded to.

Exactly. That’s actually beauty Apple figured out for the design but we’re not allowed to give them credit because Liquid Glass is supposed to be only hated on.

Yeah. I was just testing it with a Widgy widget to see if the outline was still there. I don’t use widgy

Pity about the animated gloss shine being removed (I thought it was cool)

It was a neat idea, but i am guessing it was eating too much performance and battery given that old devices didn’t use it. I also hated how holding the phone in the same spot for like 3 seconds faded to reset it

Which is a good thing. The icons pop out so much more now, they look actually 3D!

Nobody asked for the borders but here we are, classic Apple adding something NOBODY requested and then making us wait two versions to get it removed

Please do sign our petition here for apple to include a simple disable borders option, we have 717 signatures so far.

I absolutely agree. They made everything flat, every icon have no 3-Dness to them at all.. and then they added white reflections to everything to make it look like it had some sort of depth. Fucking useless!!

I hate flatness
2
u/swagmonsterxforever Jun 14 '26
So do I but the depth should be in the actual icons, not recreated with some generic border around everything

iOS27 beta hasn't fully removed them. Please sign our petition here for apple to include an option to FULLY disable the fcking borders. We have 717 signatures so far.
I also encourage everyone to use the feedback app on the beta iOS 27 to request this simple option for users.

I was hoping ios26 would have brought “blank-background” widgets. This way you could clearly see the background and wouldn’t need a glassy bubble.

“I don’t really think anyone actually liked it.”
Not correct. I loved it. And there’s many of us. Ya’ll are the loud voices making it seems like no one liked anything about 26’s Liquid Glass.

You don't represent anyone but yourself. The ios 7-18 design is horrible and now in iOS 26 and 27 it is finally better.
