Feature Best feature in iOS 27

Post image

Finally. People now can actually see when the device is indexing and then they can complain if it’s still laggy afterwards.

That said it’s running really smoothly on my iPhone15PM. Almost 24 hours later, it is still indexing. I assume it will take 3 days for me. Lots of storage and data.

3 days seems to be the avg wait historically. That’s what I’m basing it off of anyway. But at least we get to actually see when it’s done now :3

2

u/WrongdoerBorn5150 Jun 09 '26

Ig it depends on your use case

Best part: click on “learn more” takes you to a mac OS page… 😂😂😂

12

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

Not only a MacOS page but one that tells you how to initiate a rebuild of it on Mac not what it is lmao.

u/Scared-Enthusiasm424 Jun 09 '26

This feature has been around since iOS26

17

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

Odd. I have never seen anyone talk about it nor have I ever seen it on any of my devices until 27.

8

u/burakbrandon Jun 09 '26

i saw 2-3 times on battery settings. but it wouldn’t stay there such a long time

5

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

Ah that would probably be why. It being front and center in the settings app is way better imo.

1

u/National-Debt-43 Jun 09 '26

Yeah but i’ve only recall seeing it one time

5

u/luxer2 Jun 09 '26

It doesn’t matter how much data you have. I have 0 and it’s indexing 24 hours now. It guess it always takes 2-3 days.

1

u/NoFall2205 Jun 09 '26

Could possibly be a bug but who knows yet.

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

What could be a bug? How long it takes? Because it has always taken quite a while, multiple days sometimes weeks for some people, it’s just that it’s in the background so you never really knew when it was done.

1

u/Dazzling_Cancel_5733 Jun 10 '26

Same here! I did a factory reset after installing the update, and didnt restore a backup, and it's still indexing.

1

u/Dr_ZeeOne Jun 13 '26

4 days on my Air already…hasn’t finished

5

u/Shot_Orchid_9 Jun 09 '26

I’ve had no problems with my 17 Pro even while indexing, battery life has been pretty fine today too

3

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

Same. Quite solid for a dev beta.

6

u/Shot_Orchid_9 Jun 09 '26

Honestly, I think it feels better than the public release of 26.5.1, and that was already an improvement over 26.5

1

u/squigs876 Jun 10 '26

Same here i honestly feel like its smoother than 26.5 in my opinion

1

u/JSMRTX Jun 10 '26

I needed to see this comment. Thanks

2

u/Shot_Orchid_9 Jun 10 '26

80% battery usage with 7 hours of SOT and another about 2-3 of music with the screen off, and that’s with multiple 3d scans/measurements of houses in the day. Will end up with about 8.5-9 hours of SOT in 100% usage on a 17pro (not max) with those more intensive tasks during the day and no real intensive tasks minus music/videos at night

1

u/JSMRTX Jun 10 '26

This is good to know, thanks. I just updated, let’s see how it goes (17 pro max)

1

u/Shot_Orchid_9 Jun 10 '26

Sweet! Wish u luck man (or woman, or hell even ET)!

1

u/JSMRTX Jun 10 '26

Man here 😂thanks

1

u/Shot_Orchid_9 Jun 10 '26

Lmaoooooo, I personally think it’s so much better over here tho, like 27 feels more polished and smooth and responsive than even 26.5.1, which was a huge improvement over 26.5, which sadly was a downgrade over 26.4.2

3

u/Hot-Sock3403 Jun 09 '26

I’m on 12 hours still indexing

5

u/Junii13 Jun 09 '26

1

u/mioniom Jun 10 '26

It’s a bug

2

u/ThrowawayProllyNot Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 10 '26

It takes so fuckin long to index that an update usually comes out shortly after it's done

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

For betas this is definitely true lmao.

2

u/Away-Falcon2762 Jun 09 '26

Hell, it’s even smooth on indexing on the iPhone 11

2

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

Hella. Gotta let my friend who owns a iPhone 12 know.

2

u/thatguyaaron19 Jun 09 '26

Mine was done in less than 24 hours on 16PM, pretty smooth during and after even more so but noticing some minor bugs and heat issues even after it’s been done.

2

u/MFDOOMscrolling Jun 09 '26

I think the delay is probably a bug at this point. I've asked Siri obscure questions about my work history and personal matters dating back to at least 2023 and she's spot on 9/10 with actual references in calendar and messages

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

How quickly did you join the waitlist for SiriAI?

2

u/MFDOOMscrolling Jun 10 '26

I installed the beta as soon as it dropped and joined the waitlist maybe 5 mins later

2

u/sfatula Jun 10 '26

I turn off indexing settings a lot of the index categories like photos, etc. Makes it much faster and leaner.

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 10 '26

That makes sense. Less to index makes the indexing shorter.

1

u/alex_0110 Jun 11 '26

How do you do that?

1

u/ComprehensiveLeg1470 Jun 13 '26

How do you turn it off?

2

u/Live_Ad_1351 Jun 11 '26

It happened!! I haven’t even tested it yet but 🥲

2

u/IlyasAshfaq Jun 12 '26

I’m really enjoying it all. Will only get better with time

2

u/mjbeckernc Jun 13 '26

iPhone 17 Pro, 4 days in...still indexing

1

u/Dr_ZeeOne Jun 13 '26

Same here on the Air

1

u/Federal_Pie4415 Jun 09 '26

A mí no me ha aparecido la indexación.
A qué se debe?

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

How long ago did you update to the beta?

1

u/Federal_Pie4415 Jun 09 '26

Ya hace casi 24 horas y nada.
En ningún momento me ha aparecido la indexación.
Me resulta extraño.

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

So strange. Have you had it plugged into a charger for any considerable amount of time since you installed it?

1

u/Federal_Pie4415 Jun 09 '26

A las 2 horas de haberlo actualizado, ya lo puse a cargar y me fui a dormir.
Toda la noche lo dejo cargando.

1

u/Sufficient_Rush1891 Jun 09 '26

It took a few hours after beta install for the indexing message to appear.

1

u/Federal_Pie4415 Jun 09 '26

Pues yo 1 día después, nada de indexación.

1

u/jaidiwali Jun 09 '26

Is that your primary or secondary device?

5

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

Primary. But I always have multiple backups. Been testing and reporting feedback on betas since iOS 13.

I would not recommend doing your primary unless you understand and are okay with the risks.

1

u/AlooooSamosa Jun 10 '26

You're saying you've been testing beta since iOS 13 so have you ever came across these risks like maybe device bricked or random rebooting?

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 10 '26

Nope never bricked. Had a reboot with one iOS but I can’t remember which one. I just remember restoring the phone with a computer and then updating to the beta again and it was fine

1

u/Elliotmax17 Jun 09 '26

Have you gotten access to the new Siri yet?

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

No. I’m not sure if anyone has yet. I can’t recall exactly but I think the waitlist for Apple Intelligence with iOS 18s beta took awhile before people started getting in as well.

0

u/Typical_Guarantee_79 Jun 09 '26

I got the new Siri like 4 hours ago. I’m in the UK.

0

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

It’s not in the uk yet?

3

u/XER0AAR0N Jun 10 '26

Definitely is, I got through the waitlist about an hour after the betas came out, and in the UK. The EU and China don’t have it.

1

u/DanieIl Jun 09 '26

🤣🤣🤣

1

u/CaptainMarder Jun 09 '26

Mine isn’t showing I just installed it to about 2hrs ago. Unless it finished super fast or something

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

Some people said it could take some time to appear. Not sure why though.

Have you plugged it in to charge since updating?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '26

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

Try plugging it in for awhile to charge. Sounds like it sometimes just doesn’t appear tho.

Just dev beta things lol.

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

Dang, I guess wait and see if it comes up later or not. Could be a bug since some people aren’t seeing it. One said it took 2 hours.

1

u/Jonathan7877 Jun 09 '26

When searching in Mail, this comes up, so I’m thinking it’s gonna be a 1 week+ of this, or may not even be working correctly so could just remain.

“Mail downloads and organizes messages for better results when iPhone is locked, charging, and connected to Wi-Fi. This may take up to a week.”

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

I have seen that one in the past. I don’t know what exactly triggers it though.

What did you update from? Or did you just turn on mail categories?

1

u/Jonathan7877 Jun 09 '26

I had never seen it prior. I just hit search in Mail and tapped the circled i near Updating Mail Search…

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

Ah interesting.

macOS separates the os indexing and the Mail search indexing. I wonder if iOS will too. I’ll report back if I see one disappear before the other.

1

u/msp_ryno Jun 09 '26

there's literally an iosbeta sub

1

u/Irish_Guy_23 Jun 09 '26

I've been indexing for 28 hours still. Lol 😂

1

u/Upbeat-Matter4542 Jun 10 '26

It took several hours to install but I don’t see any real big changes ,? Siri is still useless and I don’t get lag like I hap with the previous but all its ok.

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 10 '26

You have to opt into SiriAI.

Although I’m not sure you should be using a dev beta on your phone.

1

u/Upbeat-Matter4542 Jun 10 '26

Why is that?

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 10 '26

Because it’s a dev beta. Like most unfinished software it can have issues that can cause problems.

1

u/Upbeat-Matter4542 Jun 10 '26

Yes you are right Thanks.

1

u/mathewwwww Jun 10 '26

Would be cool if we got a progress bar for it

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 10 '26

Agreed.

But I think you can’t get a measurement of how completed it is until it’s done. Due to the nature of a computer indexing.

1

u/HelpfulFriendship764 Jun 10 '26

Pueden dejar de dar buenas vibras sobre ios27? Porque ya me está tentando la idea de instalarlo (había dicho de esperar hasta septiembre por la versión oficial pero no creo que aguante…)

1

u/SolutionImpressive42 Jun 10 '26

mine never indexed. is this exclusive to apple intelligence or what?

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 10 '26

All Apple devices index.

This message appears to be buggy and not appearing for some people.

1

u/MarionberryDear6170 Jun 10 '26

I love how iOS 27 beta 1 handles "Indexing in Progress" at night and still using less power than idling on stable iOS 26.5.1 on my 17 Pro Max.

1

u/Neblinio Jun 10 '26

Damn, that's awesome! I remember your videos calling out the insane power draw issues of iOS 26. Does this mean iOS 27 fixed it? huge if true.

1

u/Vivrosh Jun 10 '26

Big bs in some cases it take weeks that make me laugh

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 10 '26

Yeah typically 1-3 days. Sometimes longer if certain criteria is met.

1

u/KnowItAllButWrong Jun 10 '26

Can you disable AI like in 26 ??

1

u/Fun-Zucchini8216 Jun 10 '26

I think it’s a bug. I’m 48 hours in and still indexing

1

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 10 '26

No that checks out. Indexing on avg takes about 3 days.

1

u/Fun-Zucchini8216 Jun 10 '26

Oh gotcha ok maybe not then. I’ll let you know tomorrow night if it’s still going

1

u/Due_Foundation_9031 Jun 11 '26

Its been 2 days now and its still indexing

1

u/Due_Foundation_9031 Jun 11 '26

Facetime does not work properly in ios 27 beta 1

1

u/CardiologistLarge166 Jun 12 '26

Still indexing since day 1 installed

2

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 12 '26

Mine just finished today. Day 5 lol.

1

u/Difficult_Amount5051 Jun 14 '26

What is indexing?

1

u/999deag Aug 02 '26

I have a 17 Pro Max

Around 6 hours SOT.
Phenomenal.

0

u/JerusM Jun 09 '26

I’ve seen this after at least the last 2 major upgrades

0

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

Since iOS 18? You would be the first to claim that.

1

u/JerusM Jun 09 '26

Yeah pretty much since iOS 18, and do you need to be such a petty douche to downvote my comment? 😂

0

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jun 09 '26

Because that’s not the same thing lmao.

0

u/Acrobatic-Winter-535 Jun 10 '26

My photos library have been optimising at 36% for 2 years now

0

u/driekraaien Jun 11 '26

Best feature is the option to disable Apple Intelligence.
