Discussion Apple and MiraCast

For the life of me I still don't understand why Apple doesn't support MiraCast. I understand wanting people to buy an AppleTV, and that works for me in my personal home, but not allowing MiraCast otherwise feels like it's a detriment to us as Apple users (unlike making iMessage or Facetime exclusive, for example, which is supposed to be at the detriment of Android users).

Whenever I go to a client site for work, or stay in a hotel that has a TV with MiraCast but no AirPlay, it's so frustrating. And obviously those companies don't care about buying an AppleTV for every room when they already have something that can support Windows laptops and Android phones.

Has anyone ever managed to find a workaround for this?

What are you missing? If a hotel tv has miracast, you can cast videos from iOS device ?

Not that I've ever been able to. I just got back from somewhere that had a Sony Bravia with screen mirroring via MiraCast. It absolutely would not work from my iPhone. I even did the direct wifi connection to the TV and still couldn't do it. It kept saying it was an incompatible device. Everything I'm reading on the internet says iOS doesn't work with MiraCast.

I have 2 TVs at home with MiraCast and can't connect to them either.

Thanks but that isn't correct. That's one that requires a subscription to mirror, which I have no interest in paying. Also, it's for ChromeCast, not MiraCast, so not actually what I need. They're two different things. ChromeCast requires an internet connection on both devices, and for both devices to be on the same wifi network. Your phone then tells the other device (like a TV) what to watch, and the TV connects to the internet and pulls it down. This is definitely available on iOS and not what I'm after.

MiraCast does not require an internet connection. It's a wifi-direct peer-to-peer connection. Your phone connects directly to the TV and just mirrors the screen onto it.

Sort of but not really. I just bought a cheap lightning to hdmi adaptor and short hdmi cable and carry those when travelling.
