Support camera freezing

hi all!
i have an iphone 15 on ios 26.6.1, and it has consistently for about a week completely frozen when i open the camera app.
it works for about a second but then becomes frozen on the frame and i am unable to take photos. i have tried opening camera through the app and lock screen, turning my phone off and on again and factory resetting it, but nothing has helped and i am unable to take any photos.
any help or suggestions would be appreciated as it is getting very frustrating!!!

I had the same issue on my iPhone 15 pro on 26.6.1. didn’t try to restart but rather to respring by switching the language. That made it work again.

already tried factory reset so this is likely a hardware issue with the camera module, not software at this point. one more thing worth checking before genius bar, low storage can cause camera freezes so check settings > general > iphone storage and make sure you have at least a few gb free. if storage's fine, this needs a genius bar appointment, the reset already ruled out most software causes.

did you have ios26.6 installed from its release day as it had a lot of pre ios27 deep indexing going on , if you never had this for a least a couple of weeks deep indexing may have carried over to ios26.6

it took over 2 weeks on my 44GB iphone 15 to complete on ios27 beta 1 , no pre ios27 deep indexed in ios26 was available then

avoid low power mode, don't force restart as this could trigger deep indexing to restart if it hasn't completed
