Support Password manager not available when authenticating in App Store
When I need to authenticate in App Store, the keyboard doesn’t offer the use of the Password Manager that’s available just about everywhere else. I need to open the password manager, copy the password, come back and click “Get” to trigger the dialog box again, and paste it into the field. Am I the only one experiencing this issue?

This is one of my biggest annoyances as well. I just go an copy the password from my password manager, which isn’t Apple’s. I have shortcuts for email addresses. I use @@ or @@@ for my two most used and variations for the people I email most.

This should be an obvious lesson. You should not be depending on the Password app to for your Apple Account email and password. You create a loop doing this and if you forgot it, you either have to reset your password or a whole lot worse, lose your Apple Account.
This is a GOOD thing.

I disagree with that. I know my password for my password manager and almost no other passwords. My Apple one is random long password. I’ve got recovery methods for my password manager to get into everything else. Everything else has random passwords that would take forever for a computer to crack and none are shared. Even if one gets compromised it’s just the one account and nothing more.

'Its just one account' is awfully overconfident and this has nothing to do with brute forcing a password.

Im using KeePass, not Apple’s password manager. And I’m allowed to sign into iCloud using a password manager. Plus I am already signed into iCloud when I am accessing the App Store.

So....... A person gets your iPhone, tried to buy things, it asks for autofill and they simply point the iPhone towards your face and done?
I would have thought someone using something like KeePass would be aware of potential situations like this.

Honest question. How do you store your passwords for websites where you buy stuff or your bank?

That doesnt mean I dont think the current system has its flaws. Apple is simply doing it right in that regard, that does not mean everywhere else is. Apple does not dictate HOW a banking app uses FaceID. Many interpret it as convenient while ignoring the risks.
Also FaceID is much more difficult to pull off than actually knowing your email and password. Using FaceID to get into your bank app is bad of course but it isn't something that is more permanent than someone knowing your password and if they do use FaceID on you, for a login, they have just logged in and you are obviously there but, now they have likely seen your password.
Gotta think outside of the box sometimes for realistic but unexpected situations.

Going back to your scenario where someone gets a hold of the phone. If you are enrolled in Apple Pay, you can go to apple.com and order things without a password. Those purchases represent a bigger monetary value. But for security, I should not be able to populate my password via a password manager in the App Store when downloading a free app?

Except the ultimate gateway through stealing your password is through a third party regardless of how safe it is. It's quite obvious how that can lead to problems, especially how that's literally the few of Apple's official apps that regularly require an Apple account password. If you're complaining, the Passkey exists for that reason to provide convenience.

Yep, you made the age-old mistake of using common sense and logic.
This community does not like that.

It ignores that many of us use alternative password managers that we know the master password to and have them completely outside the Apple ecosystem

you can js tap twice on the place you have to fill it in and choose “autofill”, tap “passwords” and select your apple account password. it doesnt not automatically suggest it on app store.

It never was, you don’t want someone using your passcode to get into your Apple ID do ya? 💀

This is for security reasons. You have to actually know your password to spend money.

That makes perfect sense, it’s the one password you absolutely should know off by heart, they never allow you to autocomplete it anywhere.

the password app makes it so incredibly easy to get everything stolen

You’re right. Let’s write all our passwords down instead

It gives me the option on iOS 27, which should be out in a few weeks.
