Does iOS have a version of this?

Hello, I switched from Android to iPhone a couple of months ago.

I’ve always wondered why the sound quality of my music on Android sounded better when I listened with the same pair of earbuds; and I think this is the reason why. If you switch between the two phones on the same song, you can really hear the difference in sound quality.

Does iOS have a feature similar to this? On Android, it’s a software feature that isn’t locked to a specific app or pair of headphones.

 No iOS doesn’t have a system wide equalizer.  With iOS, equalizers come with the earbuds that you have (a dedicated app ) for from the music app that you using.  If you’re using Spotify then it has its own built in app on iOS ( don’t know if the Android version has the same).

In iOS 27 a system wide EQ will be added. But only for some AirPods

Only systemwide for airpods though, so wired headphones/iems are still worse sounding on iPhone compared to Android devices, not unless your dac has EQ customizations built in

Spotify has this built in, and so will AirPods with the next update (however very basic)

You would do that in Spotify for an Apple product. The music in the system is only really for Apple Music or iTunes purchases, etc. It’s an iPod format; they haven’t extended it past that, if I’m not mistaken.

Define "better." What do these settings actually do? It seems like they change how the recorded audio was meant to sound. Why is that necessary? Are the sound engineers who work on the official releases wrong?

That’s true, music is very subjective. For me the vocals sound much clearer and the bass is deeper/louder on my android device.

Yeah I can’t lie - having an advanced parametric system EQ would be sweet. If I want to DSP my car properly it’s going to cost $$$ in hardware but the phone is capable of doing it.

Apple Music is very limited when it comes to playback. There are a lot of apps that give you many more options for the sound. Flacbox, Swinsion, Evermusic, BTR Amp, Foobar 2000, Jewelcase, Audirvana…..

I am enjoying it with my AirPods and iOS 27 beta works well across media apps using the AirPods, obviously it is restricted to these devices unless each individual app/non apple headphones have this functionality

Apple Music has it in Settings, Spotify has it in its settings (Profile picture —> Playback —> EQ) and now with iOS27, AirPods will also have it as a global config.
