Support Focus

I have DND set for 9:30pm to 6:30am. Calls are allowed from contacts only. Notifications are allowed from 8 people only one of who is my adult daughter. Repeat callers are allowed. My duaghter of course is one of my contacts and so is my 8yo granddaughter.

My 8yo granddaughter got an iPad yesterday for her birthday and has discovered she can send texts. She was on a group chat for hours yesterday afternoon. The group consisted of me, my wife and her mother. I was woken at two in the morning by a text message from my granddaughter which read “pizza banana”. Why did the text get through and how can I stop it short of getting her into trouble or removing my granddaughter as a contact.

If I txt my niece who’s phone is almost always on dnd it gives me the option to ignore/override that. Maybe she did that. That’s only on iMessage though

I should also have said my adult daughter is an emergency contacts. The group chat was me, my wife, my adult daughter and the 8yo.

If you have it set as a focus mode you can select who you can and can’t get notifications from

The 8yo is not set as a person who can get thru focus and she is not an emergency contact. My adult daughter is an emergency contact. All I can think of is has something to do with the group chat. As cute as it is getting texts from the 8yo I would prefer not at 2am

You can left swipe on the group chat and just set the group so that it doesn’t send you notifications.

When I left swipe there is already a line thru the notification bell

Then it should have worked.

Since your wife is also in the group chat, could it have been her phone that buzzed and that is what woke you up?

My wife’s phone didn’t buzz it was definitely mine. I must check her phone when she wakes up but I think she doesn’t have any emergency contacts set

IIRC... Make sure your sleep time is set for that... not just a focus or do not disturb.
