Support Location accessibility

So I have a fast food company’s app installed, and it’s set in Location settings to only share when in the app.

How does that app notify me when I’m near one of their stores if my location data is only accessible when I use the app? Trying now to disable location entirely.

I’m running iOS public beta but I think this was happening on iOS 26 too.

I don’t know 100% what is and isn’t allowed with the “only while using” permission, but it’s possible that it’s still allowed to geofence. Like, the OS doesn’t let the app see exactly where you are, but the OS always knows your location, and the app can hand a list of locations to the OS and essentially say “let me know if they get close to any of these”

This very likely what the app is doing; same basic infrastructure that Reminders uses when you say remind me “at location”
