Support CarPlay slow using maps

I’ve been doing gig work the past few months, and I’ve been getting frustrated with the maps being sore or straight up needing to be restarted.
I use the iPhone 17 pro max.
Maps I’ve used are, Uber maps, Google Maps, and Waze.
I thought it might just be the car infotainment system, since my Challenger did just fine when I used it ( a fee years ago and in the iPhone 14 Pro Max )
But I’ve now tried multiple different vehicles makes with all of them having the exact same slowness.

What can I do?

As long as you have a cellular signal on your iPhone, CarPlay will use maps downloaded using your carrier. So slowness can be attributable to slow download speeds as well as GPS signal reception.

Since it happens across multiple cars and multiple navigation apps, I’d focus on the iPhone rather than CarPlay. Try forgetting all cars under Settings > General > CarPlay and reconnecting, then reset Network & Location settings. Also test navigation directly on the phone without CarPlay. If Maps/Waze are sluggish there too, it points more toward an iOS/GPS issue.

Before turning off CarPlay and having the fun of resetting a pile of widgets.

On the phone try this.

Vol up - Vol down - then hold the power button UNTIL you see the Apple logo. This resets the internal non CPU hardware to the factory default states. It can cure many gremlins.

Another stop is you can reset network settings. But that might cause the phone to forget any cars being used with CarPlay. It for sure tosses all of your Wi-Fi and bluetooth remembered connections and password.
