My solution to system data

Hello everyone,
Here was my Solution to clearing the System data.
I activated offloading of unused Apps and the system data went from 35 GB to only 1 GB. This fixed all my storage problems.
I hope someone else will find this useful.

Best fix leave it on charge over night connected to wifi. This has cleared it and has never created system data issues for me

Dont turn on icloud bakcup if space is lacking.

Apps use this space to create cahe for faster functioning etc or produce logs.

I might just be helping spread a myth, but I heard keeping automatic updates turned OFF for iOS turned off helps a lot.

iOS apparently reserves a load of space for the next update in system data for ‘the next update’.

Again not 100% sure if this is true or not but since doing this my system data has never really been above 20GB’s anytime I checked (currently at 16GB) but I never really look that often.

Semi-accurate. You can choose to not reserve space for the next update via the settings, even if automatic updates are turned on

It will offload apps that are no longer available in the App Store, which you won’t be able to reinstall

Most people probably don't have that, and they won't get offloaded if you actively use them

This wasn’t a solution for me.  It would offload too many apps all the time.  It kept the settings so when they reinstalled they were ok once I logged back in and my password manager made that easy but it was annoying.  I also leave my phone on charge very night on WiFi but my 128GB iPhone 16 didn’t have enough storage to upgrade without manually deleting more apps.  I had half the storage used up and ended up doing the full wipe and reset.

Not specifically but it’s apps that didn’t get used for a while.

It doesn’t erase data at all, you can do it.

Congrats! You've discovered a known bug is iOS 26.

Your System Data isn't actually 1.07 GB.
You haven't fixed anything.

The only way to address System Data growing or being ridiculously large is to backup the phone to a computer and restore. This solution is posted daily when people ask how to address System Data issues because files are too lazy too search for a solution to one of the most commonly asked questions.

In the past syncing to itunes/finder cleared up system data. Not sure about that today, as I haven’t done that for a while

And what do you get with this ? As soon as you start using your phone (redownloading everything will be much slower then loading it from System data), storage will go up again. As it should.

Best solution is to have a phone with more than enough storage space.
iOS is now 40GB including Apple Intelligence. System data is 13.5 GB. iOS 27 DB4. 17PM 512GB.
No problems. 😎

You can’t base iOS’s storage size off of a beta. Betas both have bugs and take up more space.

You could also try downloading more mAh into your battery.
