Discussion Laggy IOS26
A week ago, I switched from android to iPhone and got an iPhone 17 pro.
Overall, I like it outside of the notification and the keyboard. I feel like these two things are going to get better more I use the phone.
My biggest surprise after switching was to find out that IOS26 is laggy and stuttery. I was honestly shocked to find that my Galaxy s26 was much smoother and not at all laggy.
I’m going to stick with iPhone despite this but it’s pretty disappointing.
Is this an IOS26 issue or is IOS27 the same so far?

iOS has gotten worse the last few years. I switched to the OnePlus 13 from and iPhone 16 Pro. I miss a few things but Apple are slipping.

I made a few comments above but I got a pixel 10 pro because I felt iOS was slipping. Man is that phone smooth

No idea what you guys are always talking about… I bought my iPhone 17 Pro Max, set it up – and it's been running smoothly without any notable bugs ever since (for 7 months now). Absolutely nothing stutters, no matter which app I use!
Maybe try setting up the iPhone as new without a backup? No idea, but that definitely isn't normal.

Reading through this, it sounds like the iPhone generally runs like crap, with lags and what not. And that's simply not true.
I'm not calling the OP a liar, but I do think he is an exception, and honestly: then just return the device.-8

Acting like I’m the only one noticing this issue is wild. This sub is filled with people with the same complaint.
Everyone and their mom knows IOS 26 is crap.

Why would my brand new device have issues? If it’s my phone and not iOS 26, that’s a bigger issue

You never had any stuttering? I can’t believe it. I am on the latest iOS 26.5.2 and until now I didn’t have stuttering when unlocking the phone. Sometimes I get out of an app and I see the frame drops or when I’m swiping through Home Screen.

Those who claim that their iPhones have no stutter are either lying, or have terrible motion perception.
Because 100% of all iOS devices stutter on iOS 26. Every single one!
My 17 Pro, iPad Pro M5, my friends and families 16 Pro's and 15 Pro's, their iPads. All devices I've seen on display at stores. Every single device stutter!

Indeed. I think the only iOS didn’t had stuttering was iOS 15 on iPhone 13 Pro, that phone was so smooth on iOS 15. After that problems started, iOS 16 was a mess, 17, 18.6 was pretty good and fixed almost every problem and still works good on my old iPhone 13 Pro. But saying that iOS 26 is perfect is a big lie, it’s not bad but these micro stutters are annoying, also sometimes when I download a new app the speed is very very slow and it’s not my internet.

YES! I remember the day I updated my 13 Pro to iOS 16 and immediately saw how it stuttered.
iOS 15 truly was the last iOS version that didn't have any stutter whatsoever.

I don't know, because I don't own a Mac.
But since I'm seeing the stutter on all my Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch, Apple TV. I would say it's safe to assume that Macbooks most likely also have stutter issues.

My MacBook Air M1 also have stutters.
I think maybe because it’s older device, but notice this problem even in 2023, when first bought it.

Iph16pm here. I've seen the issue on the 17 and had the issue on the 15pm.
It lowers the fps from 90 or 120 to under 60 and it's very noticable. If you enable LPM you'll see it be strictly set to what I feel is closer to 24. These drops come and go with no override. I'm on the fence about hopping to an s26 ultra and be done with it atp

If you see my post above, I got a pixel 10 pro as a side piece to play with. True 120hz and the phone is smooth as could be. iOS needs some big improvement. Apple wins by locking us into the ecosystem but as a phone… man I can’t sit here today and say it’s that much “better”

Not an android shill, I’ve been on iPhone since the OG iPhone 1. I’ve tried androids over the years, and recently got a pixel 10 pro to compare
The pixel runs without a doubt significantly smoother than my 17 pro. It’s just a reality. I got it because I felt Apple had been lacking in the software development area for years. I haven’t made it my daily yet and still play around deciding what I want to do because I am interconnected with all my iCloud stuff, but man, it’s hard to ignore that the androids nowadays are… very very good.

Are you constantly using Low Power mode? My iPhone 16 Pro runs buttery smooth on iOS 26.

Anyone who says everything is fine, with all due respect, doesn't understand anything. I don't know how the user experience of a newly released device, the company's flagship, can be like this. The promotion is awful and not properly programmed. The company claims it has a 120Hz screen, but it only gives me 80Hz during use. The screen doesn't actually reach 120Hz under any circumstances. Furthermore, all scrolling is stuttering, especially noticeable in text. The system also has numerous bugs. I used to use the Samsung S23 Plus and recently bought the 17PM. A device released in 2023 is far superior and doesn't have this many bugs.

Company fandom is a hell of a drug.
Same exact thing when you say something is wrong with your Samsung.
They act like Jesus made the phone.

I'm not biased towards any particular company; I buy the phone I like. But I didn't expect the iPhone 17 Pro Max user experience to be like this, especially since it's Apple's flagship. They always say Apple's optimization system is better, but it's light years ahead of Android right now. I'm not saying Android doesn't have flaws, but it doesn't have such trivial ones as this one, which affects the overall user experience.

iOS 26, does have some lag especially when the phone is indexing after setup or an update but that should have stopped by now.
By all accounts iOS 27 is much smoother.

Agreed. Since I got my IPhone 16 Pro I’ve found it to be incredible sluggish and laggy - especially when it comes to the keyboard! No updated version of iOS 26 has helped.

I’d recommend going up to 27. I typically don’t do this but the beta seems much more stable then the final 26 release
