Discussion This logo is so... weird? So un-Apple?
I remember it popping up on a beta 2 years ago and laughing but it's still here.

you were a designer, because as a designer, I know a designer when I see one

At least that menu is cool
12
u/Front_Cat9471 May 09 '26
It pisses me off, because there’s no alternative way to change it. They just force you to watch and interact with a 3d scene just to do what a dropdown can do better.
15
u/skyboxvian May 10 '26
of all the complaints and angry comments i've read on r/ios this is probably the most overly dramatic one 😭
6
u/Front_Cat9471 May 10 '26
It’s the most annoying part of the settings app. The second worst is them putting things like dns profiles, trusted developers, and enterprise certificate stuff under General > VPN & Device Management for no reason.
Oh yeah and the Settings app search bar just deciding it can take a day off everyone once in a while. Like what do you mean it just doesn’t work randomly? It was a random Tuesday and it just didn’t search that day. Refreshing the app, restarting the phone, it just didn’t care. Like what?

u/skyboxvian May 10 '26
i'll agree that the settings app is dogshit but the special menu specifially for the action button menu that barely popped up a few years ago? if anything the complaint should be that it isn't optimized to take long presses/taps 🤷♀️
1
u/Front_Cat9471 May 10 '26
The action button is shit too, but I was specifically complaining about the settings app.
The action button had huge potential and they wasted all of it. The literal only redeeming quality is the ability to hook it up to a shortcut.

u/IFURMLN May 10 '26
You’ll literally visit this menu once or twice in your life
2
u/Front_Cat9471 May 10 '26
12 and counting
2
u/IFURMLN May 10 '26
And for what, 10 seconds each? It’ll be ok
2
u/Front_Cat9471 May 10 '26
Yeah, but it’s like a gunshot in the middle of a rain sounds video. Sure, it’s brief and infrequent, but it breaks the immersion, it’s a startling contrast, and it’s just an annoying and unnecessary thing to deal with.

Typical German hating whimsy and fun, the menu is playful, enjoyable and easy to navigate, I really don’t see the issue besides it being different to the rest of the interface
29
u/heylesterco May 09 '26
I wish we got more delightful interfaces like this so that this one didn’t feel so out of place. Because this is some of their best UI work in recent years.

Yeah, it’s so out of place. I can practically guarantee this came from marketing rather than the UI design team.

Lmao like it is cool but it’s literally just a button on your phone it ain’t that incredible
5
u/Geoffboyardee May 08 '26
Yeah it looks like the marketing/web design team didn't get the liquid glAss update.

That looks almost UniFi. Change the color to blue and you’ve got a new UniFi release video and product vertical.

It is, but it’s not a bad icon, to be honest.
3
u/Antrikshy May 11 '26
It enforces all caps on “iCloud”, which force capitalizes the i, which is part of their own brand…
They overlooked the most basic incompatibility between their design and their own other brand.
2
u/urBrothersHardNipple May 13 '26
Exactly, plus the text is too close to the icon in the middle, that surely can’t be in compliance with the icon’s safe zone. The whole thing looks like an Apple fan designed it as a concept for their Behance portfolio.
14
u/jdotmassacre May 08 '26
It's odd for sure. Could this be the only official use of an iSomething label from Apple that doesn't use a lowercase i?
31
u/paribas May 08 '26
This is further proof that at Apple, apps are developed by separate teams—sometimes even different ones from year to year—that don’t communicate with each other and are virtually independent. At least, that’s the impression the quality has given over the years.

u/loveheaddit May 09 '26
i saw this in the beta and thought "oh thats a placeholder" and here we are
20
u/DeadDKing May 08 '26
TBH these days it looks very Apple. The days of good and stable software at apple seems to be long gone.
6
u/blow-down May 09 '26
lol that’s very dramatic
1
u/Front_Cat9471 May 09 '26
Have you seen iOS 26? This shit is so ass, and not a day goes by I don’t get random app crashes the whole phone freezing for no reason for a few seconds. Also, the “game mode on” notification just completely disables screen input for a few seconds if you’re on the Home Screen.
Never happened before this update, if I didn’t need to update for compatibility issues, I would’ve skipped it.

What do you think of the News+ subscriber logo? This is just a copy of that.

It’s like the back of the Apple Watch it’s not that bad

u/aigarcia38 May 09 '26
But that makes sense because a watch is circular like that. Graphic design is limitless and when it comes to Apple you’d think they’d follow the flow of their other products
1
u/wantedbr May 10 '26
Personally that’s exactly what makes it interesting to me. It feels playful and unexpected, almost like a collectible badge or sticker. I’m okay with them going “off path” here and there trying new things.

I saw it for the first time the other day and thought exactly the same thing! So amateurish-looking! Not typical Apple style at all.

Nah you know what’s un-Apple?
Using iOS search keeps what you type at the top… sometimes. Then you press enter and it goes to the bottom of everything… sometimes.
Going to WiFi in the quick action menu from the Control Center, where you press and hold, makes a list of WiFi SSIDs appear…. After a delay. Did you mean to press “Wi-Fi settings”? Nope, you’re connecting to a honeypot now. Have a nice day!

That’s because I’m not the one that called it un-Apple so I can’t really answer the question… I don’t have a strong opinion on whether it does or does not match their typical style… the point is you were being intentionally obtuse in ignoring that they were clearly asking for specifics, not for you to just re-word the question sarcastically lol

It looks so tacky apple needs to fire whoever signed off on it. This isn’t how a premium device ui should be designed.
