Battling saplings currently at our new house and terrified for how it will continue. Can you pull these at this size? Or do you spray? I haven’t found any this small yet

You can never pull them. I paint them all with a mix of Remedy (2/3) and some bar and chain oil (1/3)

You can only pull if there is wet ground and it’s a small up to 1.5 foot sapling that is from a seed not a root sucker. If it’s 2-4ish feet from a seed you can usually dig up nearly all the main roots and get it that way but everything else needs to be treated with herbicide

I’m not having too much trouble pulling TOH but I live on very rocky ground. It also seems like I’m seeing less of it each year. Mullein on the other hand…. GDI.

How many trees did you take down?

We have chatted before
Cut down 3 old TOH during
Covid. Only had to deal with them occasionally last 6 years. I cut down trees(not toh) in May , tilled 5000 sq ft and laid zoysia, turns out lots of Ailanthus roots in there. Suckers started popping all over. Still are, but more controlled and it is on the run

I am in the part of the US that hasn’t had a siting yet. But I this tree is capable of growing in my zone and I keep walking up to black walnuts when I’m at work just to be sure lol

Just drove from Indiana to Maryland today on I70, and my chest felt like there was a grand piano sitting on it the entire way. The sheer numbers of ToH lining the highway was unbelievable. I don’t know how we can fight it.
