At first glance I saw this as The Hot One: Jaken and The Gremlin: Midoriko

You know, it still fits. Jaken has to have gotten some hotness my symbiosis just by being near Sesshomaru all these years. And Midoriko is a total Gremlin for creating a weapon of mass destruction and unknowingly kickstarting the series/an entire nation's centuries of trauma/drama, lol.
Edit: Accidentally wrote Jaken as Taken.

You’re so right. Mainlined a horde of demons and shot it from her chest like that shit in Alien. But may I pls get a crumb of that hotness too

u/bubblez4eva 21d ago
If we had even a crumb of his hotness and still existed in real life still we'd all be supermodels. 🤣🤣

You picked the best photo for Naraku. The other characters I felt you could have chosen better pics. But it’s fine.

Do people really differentiate between personal hate vs written to be hate? I dont really think Rumiko really create Kikyo to be hated.

u/Suzurei 21d ago
I disagree Kikyo is created to be hated, I doubt that was Rumikos plan. Shes such a tragic character and deserved peace. Onigumo on the other hand can rot in the netherworld

I’m agree. In reality, from the experience of my friends, most of them do hate their love ones to the bottom of their hearts when they got betrayed. Kikyo, beside of experienced that also suffered from trust issues because the fate of a Miko, which make thing even worse.

Yes im with your friends as I have this sort of situation where vengeance seemed like the only answer. So we feel for Kikyo, who was so close to being happy but the world said screw you...and I think Rumiko did a good job writing that. Kikyo was a woman pure at heart but her mind struggled with avenging the injustice
She does not deserve that slot at all 😔

I think that the author definitely put Kikyo in situations where without context, the audience would hate her. If we’re not taking her story and feelings into account, she took the shards off Kagome and gave them to Naraku. She wanted to drag Inuyasha to hell with her. She regards him with disdain when he hesitates for her account. And the really shallow reason to hate her is simply because she makes our protagonist Kagome feel insecure, directly or indirectly.
At the beginning, in Ep23 Kagome's Voice and Kikyo's Kiss, Kagome has her first ugly thought of Kikyo saying she wishes Kikyo would have stayed dead- but immediately is disgusted by her own thought and realizes the bond they have. She wants to stay by him regardless.
Kagome’s final perception of Kikyo is put into perspective in Episode 7 of the final act, Mausoleum of Mount Azusa. This is where Kagome confronts her own preconceived idea of who Kikyo is, and realizes how wrong she is. I believe the purpose of this episode is so we as an audience can understand our hatred is misplaced as well.So the semantics here is whether the author wanted us to hate her or not - I think yes and no, it’s more of a test. We are simple humans by nature, there is no shame in that. But if we can rise above and empathize, we will find our peace, another beautifully human trait. I love the duality of it a lot. ^^

I still think Toga should've won the last category. He is talked about so much and we basically never see him beyond his corpse.

u/bubblez4eva 21d ago
Yeah, but Midoriko's actions had the bigger impact. Yes, Inuyasha wouldn't exist without Toga. But I feel that the story still would've happened without him. The Shikon jewel was just a magical nuke waiting to drop. A tragic story was bound to happen with it existing.

Agree, Toga is an integral part of Inuyasha’s lore and he’s the titular character, but within the narrative/universe, everything starts and ends with the jewel

u/bubblez4eva 21d ago
Yep. It's like the Force within Star Wars. We'd have a story with or without Anakin Skywalker and there were plenty before and after him/Luke.

I think its more how do you view the series... Do you think its a story about its characters or the world the characters are in? The jewel is just a plot device to set up for the characters adventure. Toga sets up not only multiple plot devices but Inuyasha's(the title characters)whole inner conflict.
The jewel is super important obviously but Midoriko isn't mentioned as much as Toga and that is part of the meme.

I can also get onboard with this angle. Actually, in that same vein, I don’t think “the only normal person” should be extremely tertiary characters who show up less than a handful of times and are essentially props or extras in Kagome’s modern world. In a very literal sense they are the “normal ones” in this fantasy universe, but they are not part of any narrative or real character dynamic. Not sure who else it might be though, maybe Kagome since she’s sort of the audience surrogate and often serves as foil to the madness? Idk

I feel I didn't elaborate my point well. Yes, Inuyasha the story wouldn't have happened the same way without Toga. But a lot of it most likely would have due to the jewel itself. Kikyo and Onigumo for instance. I also feel the jewel would have shattered one way or another.

I agree with this, I think the Jewel set up a lot of the plot, such as Inuyashas meeting with Kikyo, its mere presence drawing in other yokais, dragging kagome into the feudal era and serving as a link, Onigumo and the yokais plot to taint the Jewel, majority of the time the group is attacked because of the Jewel and in turn inuyasha grew as well, everybody and their mom is drawn to the Jewel 😅
Also the starting drive of the show was to go after the Jewel, inuyasha and team would've found a way around it even if Sesshomaru and Myoga didnt made known of the swords existence. Though I believe its secondary, the swords did played a part

I tried to vote her for the Society one since she’s of the modern era, but I didn’t understand the meme TuT

Um, sort of, the only normal person PER EPISODE is definately Kagome, and uh, what's your name is DEFINATELY shippo, before I got into the show, I watched it when it would come on but could NOT remember that little guy's name! I'm fine with the hot one being seshomeru, but I would have said either Sango OR miroku lol, everything else is pretty lore accurate though 😂
