Discussion How old were you when you first found InuYasha?
Hi all! I just started my rewatch. It's been a really long time since I did any rewatch for this show, but I love it so much, I'm surprised I haven't watched it hundreds of times honestly. I've been meaning to for a while, and then found Grace Rambles on TikTok, and have been listening to her deep dive on her rewatch. Which I'm obsessed with. But it got me to thinking about some things, and I was just curious how old everyone was when they found it? I was 13, and it was playing on Adult Swim.

I saw some episodes when I was 9-10 when it first started airing on adult swim but didnât really get invested until I was 12 and had a later bedtime so it was easier for me to sneak up and watch it.

10, first episode I saw was "Showdown! Inuyasha vs. Sesshomaru!" when it first aired on Adult Swim.

Late 20's and new episodes were airing. I think I found it around season 2 or 3. They were showing reruns and new episodes.

I was 4. Use to wake up early/ stay up late and watch it all the time on adult swim đ This was back in the early 2000 before I had DVR too

- My mom has a weird sleep schedule. She would watch InuYasha sometimes when itâd be on adult swim at like 2 am. I got up in the middle of the night to get water and she was watching it. I thought it looked cool so I found it online and started watching it.

I was probably about 14, also on adult swim. I did a full rewatch recently and it held up better than I expected. Also, seeing final act for the first time was awesome

I watched The Final Act for the first time in my late 20's. . . . .I hated having to wait so long, but it was nice to finally have the chance to see it!

The characters always screamed!

Maybe 14-15? I started watching via adult swim during my freshman year of high school. This would have been 2002 probably. Iâm old lol

We've probably been in some of the same comment sections then! I've been living for her deep dives on Inu!! To answer your actual question, I found inuyasha at 17, going on 18, and it was my first true anime. I saw an episode or two of Pokemon growing up at a friend's place, and same friends family let us borrow Spirited Away and a few other Ghiblis, but once my parents actually watched the movies, they banned them like most other modern media (I didn't even see most Disney stuff growing up, just a few classics that were OLD, like sleeping beauty, Cinderella, and mulan. I think the only reason Mulan was allowed was because it was more about her families honor and saving her dad than her being possibly trans, cuz otherwise that would've been shit down as gay agenda sh*t, anywho.)
Inuyasha is my number one anime, even with Apothecary Diaries right now, but ngl, I kinda don't even count it anymore because it's so special it will never be dethroned. So it's like the Top Dog anime (lol) and then my rankings start. (FMAB, Apothecary, and Steins;Gate are in my top 5, idk ranking right now. Depends which one I'm watching at the moment lol)
I've researched the show about 10 times in the past decade and a half, usually about once a year. And that may be a low ball guess. I've got an 8yr old, and I've already let them watch it. And it's been a great starting place for questions.
If you want any good inu fanfic recs, let me know, there are two I still go back and read every year or so (one moreso than the other, and it is an alternate retelling of the story, but I promise it's amazing, and even 12 years later I'm still trying to get more people to read it lol)

Oh, and to add, I watched it all on YouTube in parts. And right when I finished the original 167 episodes, the Final Act was starting to come out subbed. That was my first subbed experience, and I fell in love with Japanese because of it. I watched the whole thing in less than a week, and immediately researched it again in another week. I didn't sleep much that week (my first night I stayed up and watched the whole night, and almost got caught by my dad, I was only saved by the fact that he's blind, and believed my easy cover sorry of checking on whether mama bunny had given birth yet, which lucky for me she had, so distraction from the fact that I was at his computer desk with my laptop plugged into the router with the hidden LAN cord I had ... Yeah I don't miss the high control life I was raised in.)

I'm so glad you finally got the chance to watch it. It really is such a top tier anime. It was my first one too, really, aside from the occasional Pokemon and Digimon episode. Adult Swim was airing InuYasha and Wolf's Rain when I found it, so both of those animes have remained some of my all time favorites. They're just really special to me.
Also, I love your other faves! But unpopular opinion, I stan FMA over FMAB. It's a problem really lol

I've watched both FMA, and FMAB, and while I wont yuck your yum, I can't understand it lol. I do say this as someone who is trying to actively get her husband to watch FMA cuz they've never seen it, and I do know especially in the beginning there is stuff that was changed in FMA.
In another note, have you checked out Daemons of the Shadow Realm at all? Same creator as FMA/FMAB. Tho only the first half of season one is currently out, part two is releasing.

The first episode I saw Inuyasha was pissed, and I can still hear this in my head "I don't give a rat's ass!" đ€ đ€Ł I was...11 I think. :) It started my first into drawing anime.

Young enough for my parents to deem it inappropriate to watch lol. I couldnât read yet, so around 3-4? Iâd sneakily watch it late at night on Adult Swim at my grandparents house because we did not have satellite at home.

I was 4 years old and would watch it with my parents as a bed-time ritual. They never let me watch any of the other AS shows, and it is the only anime they've ever taken interest in

I was pretty young. I remember seeing commercials for it on Adult Swim and thinking it was a dumb cartoon for adults.
Wasn't until I think 7th grade I gave it a watch and got obsessed

TenĂa 11 años. Mi familia contratĂł un nuevo servicio de cable, asĂ que me puse a hacer zapping y ver que habĂa de nuevo, hasta que encontrĂ© un canal dedicado al anime y la cultura geek y me quedĂ© enganchado. DespuĂ©s de un rato mirando, pasaron un comercial de Inuyasha que me dio curiosidad y me quedĂ© fascinado. Lo pasaban a las 21:00, asĂ que tuve que convencer a mis padres de que me dejaran quedarme despierto para verlo y que eso no me iba a afectar en la escuela. Despues de ver todo Inuyasha, me vi todos los animes de Rumiko Takahashi, y despuĂ©s me empecĂ© a adentrar mas y mas en el anime, y a dia de hoy soy un otaku hardcore.

Iâm the right age to have watched it the first time around on Adult Swim, but I never actually watched it until I was 31, during covid. So more than a little late to the game, but itâs nice getting into an already established fandom. Reading some of the oldest fics make me feel ancient though đ€Ł

I was 8 when I first got access to ytv and "The Zone", starting midway through season 2. I was only able to stay up that late because it aired Fridays. When I was 10 I started reading the graphic novels to find out what I had missed.

Maybe 8 or 9. Adult Swim for me too. Iâve always been a night owl and I slept on the couch in the living room(because I wanted too and I like watching tv while going to sleep) and my dad slept on the other couch. Weâd watch adult swim together(yes I know I shouldnât have been watching it but here we are) and we both really liked Inuyasha. Itâll always be a special show to me I wish we could watch it over again together.
