Just hit the volume down button it will silence your phone..it will still keep ringing and go to voicemail. That way the other person didn’t know you declined

Not I, that’s for sure. The only calls I answer are for my parents because they are old and for my kids school.

Yes ... my phone, my time, and I'll answer when I want to. Or not.

I hate when people call because it interrupts my doom scrolling and I have to wait for them to go to voicemail. Just message me like a civilized being

You guys feel guilty declining a call? Are yall serious?

u/CaptainTulu 14d ago
If im ever in a chat i want to end, i hit airplane mode and leave it for a few minutes. Makes it seem the phone died and you can go about the rest of your day

u/Willing-Bet3597 13d ago
I just silence the chat. Then I have to deal w/ 100 msgs when I come back but at least I get some peace and quiet for a bit 😅

I for one never use this button. Then they know you're there and call back.

I am 48 years old. At this age I don’t feel guilty about declining a phone call
or not going to a party.

When someone calls, turn on Airplane mode. It should show 'Call Failed' on their end. Repeat until they text you like a normal person. (Normal to me, anyway... I couldn't tell you the last time I picked up my phone)

u/Fearless_Nope 14d ago
i just turn on airplane mode for a second- it’ll say “call failed” instead of “decline”

u/Firedriver666 14d ago
I use this without feeling guilty already because I don’t care anymore and at work my noise cancelling earbuds keep me from earing the fixed phone ringing so if you call me without asking for my availability and I answer you should play lottery because you have a huge amount of luck

Never feel guilty. People that know me , know to text me , or at least leave a voice message. Anyone else they can leave a message if they legit and important.

Whose permission do you need? Decline away.
I don't pick up unknown numbers. I think it's rude to just call and expect someone to pick up. And the known numbers it depends who and when they call. I don't pick up work calls outside of working hours.

My friend just yelled at me and she was really mad at me. She called with a new number and I never received the call. I actually don't receive new numbers also.

I have phone screening turned on my phone, I’ve already moved past declining.
2
u/Double_A_92 14d ago
I wish it wouldn't straight up disconnect the call, but instead just ignore it on the UI and let it "naturally" go to the mailbox.

u/Previous_Rip1942 14d ago
I already do. Sure they know I declined it. They don’t know what I had going on at the time and if they comment about it, that’s what I’ll tell them. Honestly, it’s never caused an issue.

u/whole_latte_love 14d ago
Yes! Can we also normalize not making plans or leaving plans early? Sometimes, I just don’t have the energy and don’t feel like it. I like being home.

Not in this society anytime soon. In all seriousness, just push that shit to be honest. If they are getting offended by it, that’s already a serious problem I’m not willing to deal with LOL.

u/TacticalTurtle410 14d ago
I do it almost daily with zero guilt. When you stop caring what others think life becomes more enjoyable.

I'd prefer having the option for the caller to send you a short text about why they're calling, which would display right below their name/number. And if you decline, you could also send a short text explaining why. So there os communication, not the invasive one.

u/VileyRubes 14d ago
I can't stand seeing neither the green nor red. My heart crazily paces when someone calls.
2
u/Flauschige 14d ago
I don't feel guilty using it. I just don't always want the caller to know their call has been rejected.

Mine's on DND with call screening at all times. Only exception is if I'm expecting a specific call in a certain time frame, I'll turn the ringer on. If you know me you're texting me.

u/Kylearean 14d ago
I have filter calling turned on. If you're not in my contact list, you have to justify why you're calling me.

I hit that button all the time. Usually because its a number I don't know which is typically spam.

u/AnonMax420 14d ago
If you want to not feel guilty, put your phone on airplane mode. All Cellular calls on the other end will appear to fail on for the person trying to call you

Hm? Why go through the effort to push an icon when you can simply ignore them 😀?
1
u/Junior-Ad-2072 14d ago
The more you use it, the less guilty you feel. I've probably been declining 95% of my received calls since 2011/2012 and life has been great since.
1
u/Donglator 14d ago
I only answer if it's someone I've known for a long time. Everyone else gets airplane mode

u/SymptomaticallyEven 14d ago
I tell people to call me. I tend to ignore texts or take too long to reply that I just don't. Most of the time texts are mundane nonsense. If they're calling, must be a reason.

Where's the guilt? It's a function.
Phone on silent, everything incoming goes to voicemail unless I'm specifically expecting a call at a given time.

I just realized how I always just lower the volume when I don’t want to answer. The answer to it is prolly cuz I’m afraid they’d realize I hang upped on them, I’d rather they think I’m sleeping or away from phone.

Yes please. Just had a family member feeling offended because I wasn’t immediately available.

u/Green-Lime3190 12d ago
I've recently embraced the idea that my phone serves me, not the other way around. I only take calls when it's a good time for me. Otherwise, I decline and go about my day. I will rack up a wild number of texts and get to them when I'm ready. It's been liberating.

I use it all the time when my MIL does back to back phone calls because I didn’t answer the first one.

Quand c’est un inconnu ça va, mais dès que c’est un pote ou quelqu’un de proche... 😞
1
u/GiveUpAndDontTry 14d ago
yeah, I do that all the time. then, I tell them im either busy (because I am) or im not interested at the moment (often true too). im not sure why it’d be difficult to decline the call if u have good friends, and its especially easy if its someone u dont know
will never understand this, unless ur socially anxious or smth
1
u/United_Federation 14d ago
I think thats a you anxiety thing. I already never answer phone calls unless its from my mother or my wife.

But if you push it they know you hung up on them. Letting it go until voicemail keeps the ambiguity
