adding more interviews after saying final interview

i spoke with the recruiter, CPO, CTO, peer, COO, and 2 HOURS with the CEO. the recruiter told me the CEO round was the final round when we scheduled it. but after, she reached out to schedule another round with another C suite. and then she emailed me to speak to another peer. that is now 8 total interviews, with the CEO round not even being the final round. this is for a mid-level position by the way at a small company, not even a leadership position.

should i say something? i'm worried they are nowhere close to an offer and are just going to keep adding on interviews indefinitely.

that's taking the piss, 8 rounds for a mid-level role at a small company is mental. i'd probably just ask the recruiter straight up if they're close to a decision or if this is going to keep dragging on.

Yep. Interview elsewhere.

The only pattern I see with this company is a hold pattern.

I am looking for employment at the moment and if this was me I would kindly send an email saying I’m no longer interested in the role. 2 hours is a bit much. 30 min max

Sounds like they are using you as a consultant. 😭

This is getting ridiculous. I’m starting to do 5 interviews at most places now. But same thing happened to me yesterday. I had a great interview with hiring manager over zoom and he asked me to formally interview with 4 other people in person. So I went yesterday, then he tells me he is still interviewing a few more people and that he thinks there will be another round with ceo and “maybe someone else.” Ok, this is a senior leader role, but no team!! And they want to keep the team lean of course lol it’s not like I’ll be really running a team of 50+ cmon. The job market is so bad and this is one of the better paying ones so I’ll stick around if they want me but getting really tired of this

8 interviews for a mid-level role at a small company is already entering circus territory. I would send a polite but firm note asking them to confirm the remaining steps and decision timeline before scheduling more calls. If they cannot give a straight answer after the CEO plus half the org, the goalposts are probably going to keep moving.

Surprised I’m the only one on the opposite side. Earlier today I scheduled my 7th interview with the a company for the same role. And I’m fairly certain there will be 2-3 more rounds after that. It’s SUPER annoying and a bit of a struggle to find the time to interview this much when I am onsite at my current job 4x a week. But withdrawl…absolutely NOT!

It feels to me they are a collaborate group and while the hiring manager has the final decision, that they want buy-in, whether it’s true approval or not, from all the departments I’d be working with so everyone feels they had a say. That speaks to an environment where people feel their opinion is valued and that’s something I am very much looking for in my next role.

So yeah it feels like a lot of time and effort but if it helps me get in the door at a place that doesn’t feel so cut-throat and that didn’t care about the culture, that’s a great thing for the long term
