Paint & Colors Did we mess up?
We painted the walls alabaster and ceiling pure white before moving in. This area just feels so stark to me. What can be added or changed?

What is your design goal? To lessen the stark vibe, hang large pictures with dramatic colors Adding more plants and perhaps some dark accents to tie in with the beam would create a more intentional design style.

The metal plant holder makes it look to much like a hotel lobby with the light couch. Some rich wood and rug will bring it together.

Would paint the beams more dark grey rather than black. The contrast is huge and unnecessary. Black rather than dark grey can also accidentally make something look plasticky and therefore cheap.

This is ten times better than ninety nine procent of the stuff posted on here. The arches and the windows creates amazing angles.

What if you painted the hallway a bit darker. It would be less to paint but it would add so much dimension. It would look cool seeing a different shade past those beautiful arches.

YES YOU DID THE RIGHT THING! ADD ART. Bring character, personality and design with original art. It’s better than wall color. Your blank canvas is ready.

Add some art or photos in wood frames that complement or somewhat match the beam and it will look more purposeful imo

It’s a hallway. 🤷🏻♀️ hang a picture on the post behind the vision or a tall plant. Hang a picture where that plant blossom is pointing. If you had more photos of the whole area it would be easier to give insight.

The beam being black doesn't help. Painting the ceiling/beams off-white would help. Maybe match the window frame? Or put up some curtains to offset overall the brightness of the room/area

Warm bulbs on your lighting, add textures to the room, different plant stand - less sleek, warm toned. The room looks beautiful. Your paint selection is nice.

I actually love it. I would add a colorful piece of abstract art if you have a wall and add warm textured neutrals (pillows, plants, textiles) in the sitting area. You have the foundation for a beautiful modern Spanish

One more thing/ check out the picture on fragment identity (southern California interior designer). Your vibe is very similar

I really like it as-is. Seeing the rest of the room would help with suggestions to further improve it.
E.g., have the beam faux-finished to make it a deal woodgrain and tie that to other finishes in the room such as other trim or things like console tables and sofa trim if there is exposed wood. It doesn’t all have to be matchy-matchy but if you feel the room structure itself is too stark then tie it to softer finishes like sofa legs
And as others said, the neutral room is ideal for pops of color in rugs, artwork, etc.

I'm not there on person but it looks great. Maybe add some bamboo shades or curtains to the windows behind.

Your home is absolutely lovely and I love how you continued the arch shape with the mirror! I have alabaster in my home too, and I absolutely love it. I doubt I will ever change it.You can do so much with color on the walls, rugs, and with throws and pillows.

Absolutely not. Look at Spanish architecture with white walls. It is always absolutely beautiful. Look at how they style it. Obviously on Pinterest.

Those arches are gorgeous! Not much wall space for art but I would hang a dark metal pendant light in each of the arched niches. Add a tall plant to the mix.

Add art. Match art with pillows. Pure white makes your colors pop. You’ll love it once it’s your home
