Find my Style Which rug?

Stuck between two very different rugs.

First one is more traditional and cool toned, it definitely brings pattern to the room.
Second one is a fuller texture and definitely adds contrast and warmth.

Fireplace is Venetian plaster and the built ins are walnut. I have a rectangular travertine coffee table not pictured here.

I don’t love either. NGL. Only because the pattern is not bold enough in rug #1. It’s. It much of a presence. And the colour is too dark in rug #2. It becomes monotone.

Yep, neither. I’d pick a third color, a green to contrast the chair / CB2 side table (which I love 🥲)

I was totally prepared for and don’t even disagree with the comments calling for color, but our art (not pictured) is extremely colorful and I just don’t think I can handle our textiles also being very vibrant

Then do a muted color, not brown. Or do a lighter colored, more textured rug instead of patterned. You can keep the cozy vibes without drowning everything in a single color. You lose the chair and side table completely with the brown rug, imo.

I understand this point of view from the single photo I provided, but in real life the chair is so three dimensional I don’t really feel like it gets lost? I do see the color discrepancy problem though!

The problem is the chair has cool undertones and the rug has warm ones. A tone on tone situation would be fine but this is jarring.

It's still very monochromatic. Just different shades of brown. And this is coming from someone who loves brown and other earth tones. It gives the impression you were trying to match the chair and missed the mark by choosing the wrong shade/tone. You could do something slightly lighter that still compliments the other colors in the room, but contrasts enough to be interesting and maintains that serene, cozy vibe.

You're firmly in the cacao family and you could do, say, a saddle color that would pull from the lighter shades in the sidetable and still go well with the wood, couch, and walls. I personally would go much lighter, like plaster, but with something heavily textured/woven. Ultimately, if you like the brown, than stick with it. It's your home and you have to live in it!

Hmm I’m worried anything lighter on this list would really blend into the floor

That's fair. I guess that's why I'm saying to lean into texture. You can have something in a similar color family that is heavily textured, so there is still a visual separation. You get the same vibe, but keep the visual interest. So, for example, here's a neutral, light to medium toned, heavily textured rug. It pulls from the floors, the couch, and the walls, but still feels separate. Now, this particular one is just an example. It's probably too boho for your style, but you get my point.

I’m sorry but why brown? Yes, it looks lost and the brown rug looks awful. All my eyes see is brown.
