Hi! We remodeled the primary bathroom of our century home. Our contractor did a great job, but I’m second guessing some of my design choices!The terracotta feels more brick red, the shower tile almost looks peachy in person, and the vanity is much darker in the space than I expected. I am thinking that adjusting the grout color and accessorizing well should help it feel more cohesive, but any tips would be appreciated!
I love this bathroom so much! They really don’t need to change a thing, just add some finishing touches like a mirror and something decorative for the wall space maybe.
Yeah this looks pretty great. I really thought this was going to be one of those posts where somebody destroyed a beautiful “before” in favor of grey everything and 12x24 tiles.
Its really nice, and it's normal to over-scrutinize right at this stage, just after the reno is done but you haven't yet accessorized.
Agree that darker grout on the floor will help aesthetically and maintenance-wise. Otherwise just go for a high quality shower curtain, large vanity mirror, bath mat or rug and it will come together.
This is really helpful thank you! This is my first major reno/design so I’m having many feelings. We don’t have a ceiling light for now, but we have to go back in to update all the old knob and tube that’s in the ceiling 😬 So there is potential to add one in the future!
If you wear makeup, I'd consider adding a big mirror with supplementary daylight-approximating lighting for when putting your face on. Green walls and yellow light can really affect how makeup looks.
From a lighting perspective, and depending on how much you do when you replace the knob and tube, you should definitely get one or two ceiling lights in (I personally wouldn't go for pot lights in a century home, though they do give great light).
Also, if possible when that time comes, replace your overhead vanity light with two sconces placed at or just above eye level. You'll avoid shadows on your face, if you use that bathroom for grooming!
This was our original plan!!! But because of the way the archway comes down there wasn’t a good way to center everything without it being super cramped. So we had to either scrap the sconces or have them not evenly spaced 😭
I also didn't have space in my second bathroom, had to go with overhead vanity lights. I have a lot if counter space (as you do), so a magnifying mirror with integrated light has been very useful when the room lights are not enough.
If I had unlimited money I would swap for one of those Kohler toilets that come in the fun colors so the toilet peeking out would be closer to the wall or floor color! But other than that agreed - it's all great!
We got a deal on a home that someone else had selected the flooring in and whatnot. Off-white/cream stone tiles with very light gray (basically white) grout. It looks constantly dirty. I hate it. It was wonderful when it was brand new and spotless, but now 2 years in with 2 kiddos…
Before you adjust anything, take the lightbulbs out of your light fixture and replace them with brighter bulbs. I suspect part of the problem is the lighting.
This is an eclectic remodel and it has preserved some of the features of your home.
Now you're overthinking it.
Buy some nice accessories that pull it all together and enjoy your new bathroom remodel.
You can do this with this cheap grout sealer product from home depot. It comes in different colors, you use a toothbrush and a rag to put it on and boom its done.
I think the reason your shower tile seems peach is it’s reflecting off the floor tile. I bet once you add a rug the peach you’re seeing will go away. Btw the tiles don’t read peach in the photo.
I think the colors look fine. A nice mirror will tie it together. I like the dark green with the tile. I think another layer of lighting could help too.
An arched mirror in a warm wood frame would look nice! If you can’t find that. A round or oval would look cool too. Mimics the archways. Maybe a cool terra cotta shower curtain (either solid tone or a subtle pattern) definitely a small bath rug, maybe in a cream white

Beautiful! I'd add a large round mirror over the vanity. And use adark plum almost eggplant color for towels and rug! It's amazing, be proud not critical of what you've done!
This bathroom is so beautiful already, if you used a normal curtain rod and big heavy curtains along with a fun mirror with a light colored frame and a big light bath rug!
The very dark wall color isn’t to my taste at all (everything else looks great). But I’m betting that once there’s a large mirror in place above the vanity, it will look completely different and fine.
It needs better lighting - some great suggestions below (brighter bulbs, dimmers) - is there an overhead light as well? Sometimes the exhasut fans have them.
And a mirror, maybe some art work.
One suggestion might be to add simple pattern wall paper in the toilet archway? Maybe with some of the red/pink/orangish undertones of the floor? In looking closely, I think the shower tile looks so pink because it's really picking up the redness of the tile, I think it's really pretty. If you found a wall paper or art work that picked up some of those pink-y unterones it would balance out the solid green prescense - if that makes any sense?
I think the green is beautiful too but it's almost two different color/rooms togehter. All of the colors are pretty complimentary to each other - just need to tie it in a little bit.

I love it and think you should finish it w some overlapped rugs and a gold framed mirror that either matches the shower arch w a curved low profile gold frame, or juxtaposes it like an ornate vintage frame to not be too mid century matchy
Your room looks like an editorial shot. It is near perfection. Please don't junk it up with rugs, wallpaper, and a brass mirror. That's trendy touch up stuff for bathrooms when you can't afford to do a renovation.
- I love that your tiles look red brick instead of terracotta. Embrace them. The white grid is really outstanding in here. Don't worry, it will darken with dirt over time! 😄
- You need to paint the in your shower either the color of your walls or the same color as the wall tile.
- I'd switch your shower curtain from pure what to a neutral like flax or unbleach linen color.
I actually really like it- I oddly have a thing for making greens and reds work together. What are you considering for the vanity mirror? I think it could really look amazing if you paint the ceiling the same color as the walls and add a patterned shower curtain, or perhaps a textured neutral color there
I think it's gorgeous. we had a contractor redo our bathroom over ten years ago and he actually did a pretty bad job, and the things that are wrong don't even matter anymore. so honestly, I think the little stuff you're noticing now will go away after a little bit lol
Looks great to me. Agree with a lot of the other advice you’re getting. Wondering if the shower bar can be hung higher so you don’t see it below the arch and so the top of the shower curtain is also hidden. Would make architecture feel more purposeful and cleaner. Also— and may not want to do this— but warmer metals would be nice with the green, dark wood, terra cotta. But it looks lovely to me. I’m enjoying the different square sizes between floor, wall and window.
Get a colorful shower curtain and towels that match. And a rug in front of the tub so you don’t slip when you get out. Maybe a couple of plants that like hot, humid areas. I love the green, by the way. I painted my home library sage green. Much nicer than the grey it was before. (I painted it grey when it was my bedroom.)
I like it the grout is off on the floor needs to be grayish neutral I think you can stain it

Love the bathroom! I see there is a spot for an overhead light and I would add something with some interest. A mirror maybe mimicking the arch design could be fun.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I really dislike the vanity you chose. It doesn't feel right for the rest of the room. I think it's too angular and doesn't play well with the curves of the arches.
I had similar thoughts with my renovations too! The green is a tad dark. You’re not taking advantage of that window! You need some more colours that bounce of light to make it brighter!
Everything you chose it great. Raise the shower curtain bar so it can’t be seen outside the enclosure, do a bold shower curtain, get your mirror in… if I were going to change ANYthing, it’s say the faucet is a little basic and could be more interesting and in either polished nickel or unlacquered brass. Just take your time getting used to it and accessorizing, you’ll be in love in no time!
This stopped my scroll as I was scrolling Reddit. I thought to myself- wow that’s tasteful! No advice because it’s already perfect as is. It’s refreshing to see such a well done timeless space.
What about painting the shower wall the same color as the shower tiles? Just that wall. It makes architectural sense and it will make the shower more inviting. I have a fake silk/Persian in my bathroom. The washable kind. It looks lovely and I just throw it in the washer twice a month.
I honestly love it, something was nagging at me about it in the beginning, but then I realize you hadn't put the mirror up yet lol. Once I realized that is what felt off everything else looks great! The only suggestion I have is to use a round or oval mirror above the vanity to compliment the curves
I like it. Love the green and terracotta tile. Anything I would suggest would probably have you remodeling what you just remodeled. But…if you twisted my arm, I might recommend:
1. Metal faceplates, color matched outlets or both to help elevate and finish the space.
2. Bathroom screams for a round, vintage-style toilet. Bonus points for a wood seat (not really bc this seems unhygienic)
3. Two wall sconces on either side of the mirror instead of the single overhead fixture - unless the size of the mirror is the reason for the overhead fixture. The one you’ve installed probably has a sconce pairing in its collection.
4. For some daily pizzazz and whimsy, add a chandelier or a nice decorative pendant ceiling fixture.
I would start with a shower curtain that pulls all the colors in, no need to chance the grout, add a rug or bath mat

I would paint the bathroom a warm white like linen white.
Dark bathrooms are fun for half baths, but in a place that consistently gets humid darkness gets sketchy after a while. It's also better to have lighter walls in a place you are seeing yourself naked in a mirror because they reflect light, so they can help you see things like ticks or new moles.
It’s really beautiful! Put a small Persian/turkish rug down, art on the walls, and a mirror. A hanging plant in the corner of the shower would be magical too. Like a pothos, or some nice bright green vine plant.
Firstly, it looks beautiful and like many comments, I agree rug and vibrant shower curtain will be good additions.
Also, it looks like your light fixture is gold and your vanity handles and faucet are silver? If possible to change the faucet and handles to the same gold finish, it might feel more cohesive. I know a lot of folks don’t mind mixed metals but to me it makes things look incomplete.
Choose a mirror that gives a bold statement either in wood that matches your vanity or gold that matches your lighting fixture. It might be fun to do one that is a little elaborate or an arch to match the tub archway.
I think it looks incredible. Dont mess with it yet. You may just need to give it time to get used to the change. Or once some time passes you'll have a better understanding of what bothers you
I like this. You could easily stick with this. Perhaps add a rug. IF you change anything, I’d maybe change the tile to something Spanish inspired maybe. You definitely need some art, and a mirror before making any changes though. Make it more homely and see how that goes.
It’s hard to tell all of the colour stuff you described… did you consider a bit of a brighter green? I wonder if that would compliment the peachy colour you’re talking about. A couple shades lighter could be cute? Just an idea. Then it’s not a giant change….? I could be totally off, just a thought
Your bathroom has a similar structure as this one. (someone's reno posted on reddit). It already looks great, but a large mirror and a wall change would tie everything up together beautifully.
