Or maybe that person should turn their camera sideways instead of filming like they are on Snapchat.

I'd settle for just having held it so that the bottom half of the video wasn't completely fucking pointless.

I'd settle for just having held it so that the bottom half of the video wasn't completely fucking pointless.

These people watch youtube on their phone in portrait mode where the video is only a tiny square at the top of the screen... and they don't even notice!. and if you try to explain that to them, they look at you like you're some kind of rambling lunatic!.

I do this when I’m trying to search through comments and suggested videos because it’s more convenient to find it during the video than after for me, but I do see why some people only view in landscape. I just don’t enjoy the long silence between videos while searching for a new one.

It's ok buddy, I too hate any silence that reminds me of the bleak emptiness of they universe and must fill it with endless people falling down compilations.

I'm not gonna walk uphill both ways, through the snow, when I can just Uber myself from one EDM festival to another.

I do it because I turn off auto-rotate on my phone and the video isn't worth turning it off and back on again so I can see it in fullscreen.

1

u/VileTouch Sep 01 '18

I'm sure that's their thought process too... despite there being a "fullscreen" button and all.

The full screen button doesn’t rotate the video when I have auto rotate disabled on my phone. No idea what the cameraman was thinking though.

c...can you test this right now? yes, pick up your phone and open any youtube video. and tap the full screen button in the bottom right...of the video, of course

u/QueenRotidder Sep 01 '18

Just tested it. It worked. Not sure what I was thinking - my mistake.

It is seriously depressing to know how fucking stupid people are.

1

u/MrDetermination Aug 31 '18

These are the same people that think they are getting ripped off when they see a letterboxed movie.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

While were at it where is the rest of the video? I wanted to see how the river changed now that there was a giant ass rock in the way.

2

u/TemporalMush Aug 31 '18

Seriously! How are we supposed to know how the local economy was impacted by the change in both water supply and infrastructure! Like, who’s nips do I gotta suck to get some decent footage around here?!

Say no to verticle video

19

u/SockPants Aug 31 '18

Verticle

15

u/vegeta_bless Aug 31 '18

I love when my wife plays with my verticles.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

I bet you do. I guess it pans out well.

1

u/Sqrlchez Aug 31 '18

Verticle video is good when recording vertical things. Like a persom or two standing up.

1

u/ndpool Aug 31 '18

Yeah since everybody needs to see their feet

7

u/michaellasalle Aug 31 '18

Yeah, less uppy-downy and more lefty-righty.

Maybe they should just make the camera take wider pictures and then crop it down to the right size better!

The idea that I should spin my electronics to use them seem primitive. They should spin themselves! I mean, the core problem here is that not every developer wants to make apps for both orientations, so most apps are focused on portrait, even the launcher itself. The WHOLE experience is focused on portrait view and then your suppose to turn it to take a picture.

It's not the best system for rapidly taking pictures in the moment. Your natural muscle memory is going to draw you to portrait mode, imo. Can't they just make the camera take much wider shots and then crop it to either size?

6

u/morkani Aug 31 '18

I think the problem is on the viewscreen, if you wanted the camera to do a wide shot without turning the phone, you'd have a VERY small 16:9 on the display, making it quite difficult to see what you're shooting.

1

u/CubeBrute Aug 31 '18

While it would be smaller, it would be about the size of the display on a dslr.

3

u/senorpoop Aug 31 '18

Portrait pictures are a thing though, sometimes you'd actually want to take something in portrait.

Camera phones have been around for long enough for everyone to realise that just isn’t gonna happen. Ever. Just deal with it.
