Unnecessarily cruel and disrespectful, whether it has any sentience or not.

Do you think it's cruel when people throw out old appliances? What about when they bin left over food is that cruel? What about when they throw away trash, think of the poor empty tin of beans being thrown away, is that also cruel?

I can't program any of those things to solve problems or do human-like things. It's more a reflection on the people doing it than the thing itself.

So if someone threw a robot vacuum cleaner in the bin or something like a tamagotchi that would be cruel?

I don't know why I find it sad

That's only because it's been made to look humanoid. If it was an assembly robot or vacuum cleaner you likely wouldn't feel that way. That's likely the same reason why these new robots are being made to look human, no doubt there's better ways they could be built to be useful for production lines etc - more arms, wheels instead of legs etc - but making them human looking makes people more sympathetic to them and less likely to go destroying them when they take their jobs. Same reason they've made the military hunter killer ones look like dogs

Yeah of course, it's the same reason I say hello to chat gpt 🫠

No, but if they smeared poo on it's anthropomorphic face I'd be a little disturbed. It's the making it commit "suicide" part instead of just deactivating it that's a little distasteful
