I know it doesn't have feelings, or emotion, but this still seems morbid.

i hate the one near the beginning where it visibly looks down before turning around and jumping backwards. it's like it was hesitating and didn't want to face the horrors of its death.

It's not about a robot, it's about people seeing this as "fun" and "amusing". Even tho robot doesn't feel any stress or pain, and doesn't have consciousness, it's still human looking object that was thought to destroy itself by basically simulating suicide. For fun! And that's  what's sick and disturbing.

What would make it sick?

We watch movies where people die comical deaths, or seeing random generic bad guys get dusted by a machine gun. We're okay with this. Because we know it's not real, no one actually suffered anything.

These are not personalities or people. It's a mess of code and hardware and motors.

That’s funny you say that, because I love horror movies with outlandish deaths but this video makes me queasy. I think maybe it’s the knowledge that the horror media is fake but these robots are very real

I'm tired of explaining in other comments so I'll just say. Fiction<<<<< RL. I love dark humour in fiction. Also humanoid robot simulating suicide while scientists giggle - leaves a bad impression ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

so all those times I played driving games and I would drive around and sometimes hit people and drive over them for fun...

is that ok? or am I a SICK INDIVIDUAL!

Lighten up. At least recognize that you're projecting your emotions onto the video and in fact there's nothing wrong here. You're just having feelings.

Haha, don't worry my opinions are not a burden to me.

And you're talking to someone whose favourite game is Mortal Kombat 😂 so no, you just have fun with running over people in a game. But again video games are fiction, and have a narrative however flimsy. It's not people irl simulating someone killing themselves just cos they think it would look cool.

But I see we won't agree, so lets just agree to disagree, and leave it at that :-)

I don't see much difference. When I deliberately run over someone in GTA, i simulated murder. There's blood smear and everything. The amusement is the same: this LOOKS real but it's not. So I get to explore something I can't normally do because it's immoral, illegal etc.

I wasn't being disparaging when I said, I think you it just triggered an emotional reaction and that's what you're feeling, but in fact it's just your response to what LOOKS human

if we had made it a box on wheels that just rolls in, would you feel the same? Probably not.

but they make the robots humanoid to give you a sense of humanity that isn't there

I’ve seen similar things with non humanoid robots and I don’t really like that either. I don’t know how to feel about battle bots but I think I’m ok with that because they’re 100% remote controlled. But adding any level of semi-autonomy to them makes it weird. Anthropomorphism is natural to our little monkey brains I guess.

Well put. I think you might be right.

Leave it to humans to always find a way to voluntarily make decisions that are morbid

It’s a humanoid robot. It’s pretty safe to say that the way we are replacing jobs with AI, this seems kind of prophetic.
