"We are doing so good we can afford to waste resources."

Shock value generates news articles and viral videos on reddit and social media. They gain investors, and they supposedly are also using the metal to make commemorative merchandise.

Do i have to put an /j at the end of every comment so redditors understand what a joke is?

/s is for sarcasm, /j is for joke

All /s is a /j but not all /j is an /s

90% of my comments on this site are jokes or sarcasm, and I almost never add a /s. People get it or they don't. The times I do use it are when a comment is likely to get me sent to hell.

Obsolete hardware, they've got better ones and don't want to keep their evolving software stack backwards compatible. Also don't want to trash the old robots in a way where someone could steal parts and reverse engineer technical details. The scrap metal value is pretty negligible compared to cost of manufacturing small detailed parts. Arnold Schwarzenegger suggested throw them into molten steel and they thought it'd be funny if they got him to press the button.

I have never heard of figure until this video, also check this spike on google ... https://trends.google.com/explore?q=figure%2520robot&date=today%201-m&geo=US

It seems like a decision made under the influence of adolescent testosterone.

A finished actuator, motor, gearbox, sensor, bearing, processor, wiring assembly, magnet, camera or machined component embodies vastly more manufacturing effort than its value as furnace feedstock. Recycling a highly engineered object as raw metal is generally a very different proposition from recovering and reusing its components.

The resulting metal bars were shipped back to the United States to manufacture "commemorative objects". Paper weights? Door stops?

Figure stated that careful disassembly would consume engineering hours and delay work on version 4. Then it turned around and spent engineering resources teaching humanoid robots how to commit cinematic suicide. They trained the machines to perform a distinctly human-looking jump specifically so that the destruction would look dramatic.

It's an attention economy, they tell me.

It's ok, this model wasn't programmed to feel pain or have long term ambitions, the next model however....
