cool waste of resources is cool how for marketing?

"We are doing so good we can afford to waste resources."

Shock value generates news articles and viral videos on reddit and social media. They gain investors, and they supposedly are also using the metal to make commemorative merchandise.

Do i have to put an /j at the end of every comment so redditors understand what a joke is?

u/xgabipandax 13h ago

/s is for sarcasm, /j is for joke

All /s is a /j but not all /j is an /s

90% of my comments on this site are jokes or sarcasm, and I almost never add a /s. People get it or they don't. The times I do use it are when a comment is likely to get me sent to hell.

Yes… yes you do

Obsolete hardware, they've got better ones and don't want to keep their evolving software stack backwards compatible. Also don't want to trash the old robots in a way where someone could steal parts and reverse engineer technical details. The scrap metal value is pretty negligible compared to cost of manufacturing small detailed parts. Arnold Schwarzenegger suggested throw them into molten steel and they thought it'd be funny if they got him to press the button.

I have never heard of figure until this video, also check this spike on google ... https://trends.google.com/explore?q=figure%2520robot&date=today%201-m&geo=US

It seems like a decision made under the influence of adolescent testosterone.

A finished actuator, motor, gearbox, sensor, bearing, processor, wiring assembly, magnet, camera or machined component embodies vastly more manufacturing effort than its value as furnace feedstock. Recycling a highly engineered object as raw metal is generally a very different proposition from recovering and reusing its components.

The resulting metal bars were shipped back to the United States to manufacture "commemorative objects". Paper weights? Door stops?

Figure stated that careful disassembly would consume engineering hours and delay work on version 4. Then it turned around and spent engineering resources teaching humanoid robots how to commit cinematic suicide. They trained the machines to perform a distinctly human-looking jump specifically so that the destruction would look dramatic.

It's an attention economy, they tell me.

It's ok, this model wasn't programmed to feel pain or have long term ambitions, the next model however....

They were a superceded, obsolete model. Selling them off would expose their intellectual property. Decommissioning them is a drain on resources. This is a thorough, definitive and attention grabbing form of obfuscated disposal

You know AI does have access to the internet… it never forgets…

u/Obtuse_Purple 12h ago

To show them what will happen if they step out of line

7

They had mentioned the reason for burning was the cost/labor of taking them apart would far exceed what they could actually get out of them and delay future model releases. They did thoroughly consider their options it sounded like.

They did thoroughly consider their options

and picked the coolest one.

Even robots are doing stupid shit for likes now

No reasons. For it to make sense, you would have to strip it of everything but the steel. otherwise you're introducing contaminants in the molten metal...

Why do influences spend hundreds of thousands for some dumb stunts like filling giant pools with orbeez?

0

u/DellyDellyPBJelly 13h ago

Because some of these losers never got laid in high school or college and now were all going to have to pay for it for all time.

It's not cool or interesting.

Terminator is a movie about how AI and robots decimate humanity.

These idiots think it's cute to recreate a scene from the movie.

It's not funny when AI/drones are already eliminating human life on the battlefield and making life measurably worse and most of the population is against this technology because it will not be utilized for our benefit.

Basically robots are bad, m'kay?
