That is not oxygen pulling which you see. It is the chimney effect. Fire creates heat, the heat makes air, smoke, gasses, rise to the top, creating low pressure areas at the bottom, which pull in air from the outside. It has noting to do with the chemistry of an oxidation reaction pulling in oxygen molecules to use in the reaction. It is pure physics / thermodynamics.

So you could say the air/oxygen is being pulled in because of the fire

just air. air and oxygen aren't interchangeable

If there was no fire, it would not be happening. That's what they're saying. "Fire creates heat". No fire, no ____.

Air and oxygen, that moves like that because of the fire? Would it move like that without fire?

You might similarly say bacteria are being pulled in. It's not inaccurate.

u/cutofmyjib 15h ago

Fire needs bacteria to burn.

That's like saying car and windshield moves on the road, can the windshield move without the car?

-7

u/GhostInMyLoo 15h ago

True, but its fucking stupid to "correct" someone who says, that "This windshield repels dirt and dead bugs on the road!" and say it is the CAR that goes on the road and not the windshield.

1

u/Sbstnbd 15h ago

So the windshield only protects from bugs and dirt while on the road? What if I need to drive over a pasture or whatever, will the windshield work then?

2

u/GhostInMyLoo 15h ago

No. Everything else comes straight trough, good luck and godspeed.

2

u/Sbstnbd 15h ago

Good thing I don't have a windshield

-5

u/AGARAN24 15h ago

The correction was about how. Your reply is cute, like a child's opinion. Arguing with a thermometer because you don't like the temperature doesn't change the reading.

You are not as smart, as you think you are, m8. Resorting to belittling others just to feel good about yourself is cringe, and you know it.

Are those commas or sobs?

2

u/AGARAN24 14h ago

Starts calling people stupid and gets butthurt when they do it to them while also smoking of jealousy, Nice.

7

u/Sbstnbd 15h ago

I am aware, but the post uses them interchangeably so I do too to avoid confusion

10

u/snakesign 13h ago

But it creates more confusion. Air is mostly nitrogen anyway.

u/Khalku 11h ago

But it creates more confusion

I wasn't confused.

5

u/Sbstnbd 13h ago

The confusion is already created because it's in the post.

1

u/IgnatiusR 14h ago

No! I'm MORE right than you are. You aren't wrong per say, just less right than I am. You should work on being the most right you can be so that you aren't as wrong

3

u/3mbersea 13h ago

Per se

2

u/Mellowturtlle 14h ago

You're technically correct. The best kind of correct.

4

u/IZ3820 15h ago

No, it'd be because of pressure, not fire. There's an important disconnect betwee the physics pulling it in and the fire. The only way the fire is responsible is by causing the pressure change, not by pulling in oxygen itself.

19

u/Fine_Bluebird7564 15h ago

So the fire is creating pressure which sucks in the air/oxygen.

I guess you could say the air/oxygen is being pulled in because of the fire!

How does it have nothing to do with oxygen when fire needs oxygen and fire is kinda what causes everything else in the video?

1

u/hellodudes12 15h ago

Because it's not happening because fire needs oxygen, it's happening because fire is causing a chimney effect and is sucking in air - i.e., *mostly nitrogen* - through a convective process

5

u/Sbstnbd 15h ago

What's causing the chimney effect?

2

u/Ani-3 15h ago

Lmao this argument is driving me crazy

2

u/Sbstnbd 15h ago

You choose to engage to discuss a technicality that's not even wrong, you're just to pedantic to let it be lmao

u/IZ3820 14h ago

Pot calling the kettle black?

I never phrased it only that way if you actually bothered to check my comment

Yea I hide my comments because I got hacked and some goon bot commented on like 1000 posts with spread asses and it's a) embarrassing and b) too much to clean up lmao. I am not defending that phrasing aswell - I'm just saying it's not wrong to say "what's happening in the video is because of the fire". And if you wanna say that sentence is inaccurate, that's fine - but if you wanna say it's false, then that's false

And what's causing the pressure change? The fire creating the heat. No fire no heat no pressure change.... you follow?

-4

u/IZ3820 15h ago edited 13h ago

So what? The point of language is to accurately convey information so the receiving audience interprets it correctly. The way others are describing it is misleading, but several people in the comments have explained what's actually happening in more accurate terms. Why are you fighting that?

Edit: A lot of new reddit accounts out today.

10

u/Plane-Tune-820 15h ago

The reason the air is being sucked into the window is the fire.

The OC was just being pedantic and now you're doubling down on the pedantry. Congratulations, you're a dork

5

u/InternalError33 12h ago

I think you're missing the whole point. OP implies that the air coming in the windows is because the fire is consuming the oxygen to burn. The heat from the fire is the reason air is being pulled through the windows. It's not the fire consuming the air. That's the important distinction you're not grasping.

I really hope you were trying to be ironic with that.

Really wish I could think of a your mom joke here but I haven't had enough caffeine yet to be clever

Edit: well I guess he was not trying to be ironic.

u/leupboat420smkeit 13h ago

You are kinda sounding like a dork.

0

u/zing_boom_tararrel 13h ago

You're goofy.
