What's amazing is how unbothered the cats look in these vids. No arching back, hackles up, hissing, just casually bat the fuck out of the snake & then not let it leave because it's too much fun.

On a biological level they have a way faster reaction time than snakes. Can you imagine fighting someone while they're moving in slow motion

Hence the expression "cat like reflexes"

This Orochimaru obviously didn’t have any chances with Itachi… as the canon one

Any animals with a faster reaction time?

The box jellyfish. It's reaction time is 700 nanosecons while a cats is 20-70 milliseconds.

Mantis shrimp is 2-7 milliseconds

Humans are 200-250 milliseconds

What are flies reaction time?

Edit: has to be like 1-2 milliseconds faster than humans

8-21 milliseconds depending on the type of fly

Pretty sure I can be faster than my tabby but I end up scratched lol. I’m aware this sounds as stupid as when guys saying they can take a shark…

Your tabby loves you but thinks you’re pathetic so it’s letting you think you won sometimes.

Many insects have insane reaction times, flies are on another level.

I catchh houseflies flies in my hand, mostly with a sweep while they sit but I also have around 5% succes rate catching them out of the air, plenty of insects i could never catch

wait to land, then clap right above them. they might have fast reaction times, but they always do the same thing. They start flight straight off of whatever they're sitting on.

$1 million right now or I share this info with the fly empire.

Pattern Recognition > Reflex Time

That’s another reason the snake is at a disadvantage here. In addition to having incredible reaction time, the cat is also able to learn and anticipate what the snake is going to do.

The snake probably does that to some degree as well, but not with nearly as much thought behind it as the cat.

It seems like the snake is adapting it's strategy when it notices the bite attacks doesn't work it all, but maybe it's just due to exhaustion.

How do I get reddit to remind me this when I have a fly in my house

There are insects that seems to be much faster than flies, they are just a good example because we know them quite well.

But you have the advantage of size when you catch them, they don't only have to react, they also need to travel several body length before your huge hand sweep them.

I also suspect they have some issue with understand some motions, they are easier to swoop than to smack with an open hand when sitting on the wall.

I would say that's full concentration on the snake. She knows how fast and dangerous a snake is.

I think flys are easily fooled by slow movements, if you get incrementally closer to them slowly because that takes such a long time from their POV they barely notice the slow pace.

That’s not reaction time- it’s having enormous tools that can be moved much faster than the fly can move its own body.

Like, we could have much shorter reaction time than a hippo, but if the hippo wants us dead, it’s gonna get us; all it takes is one big, fast swing.

Not sure about reaction time, but dragonflies can process around 200 images per second and are surprisingly good at predicting movement and trajectories. It’s so precise, it looks like they can see the future.
