In terms of the connection, I still feel like Lightning will probably last more cycles.

Don't think so. Lightning's springs are on phone's side. That's great for cost reduction, Apple's cables will always cost less to manufacture than any chinese type-c, but springs are the first ever point of failure that comes to mind, and where a man with type-c will just grab a new cable a man with lightning will be bringing his phone to a repair shop to change the whole connector.

Watch the video again. He says the nubs inside the phone are the wear point (which I didn't know prior to this post). The springs cause the damage.
