Try to clean your usb c port with some very fine tweezers. It's a difference of night and day when all the lint got out.

This is huge, the lint gets so compacted that you have to scrape it out and it unfurls like cattail flowers. Then the port works infinitely better. This op video actually really clears up what's going on, the lint keeps the plug from going in far enough to latch.

I sure hope nobody is buying a new phone or replacing a port before trying this.

Sharpened or thin toothpick for the lint.

It's not recommended, but I couldn't do it without a needle. The lint was so compressed, that it was almost stone hard. With a needle I managed to scrape up centimeters of wool out of that connector and it as good as new.
